As usual, I'm long winded, so I've made bold and red any questions that I had below, and the rest is probably just fluff that most people can simply gloss over if desired.

(click to show/hide)

The P-51 Mustang absolutely sucks rocks.  Yeah as you said there is no cockpit so when you are in cockpit view you are basically playing Superman and flying in the air with nothing around you.  I did buy it simply because I wanted something faster, maybe be able to do some kind of acrobatic maneuvers, and the stats for the Mustang say that it has a cruise speed of something like 367 or 384, however...  Nerdy telling someone off. Taking it through it's paces I couldn't even reach 250 with the plane headed as straight down towards the earth as is possible, and it definitely isn't capable of any acrobatic maneuvers.  Trying to do some barrel rolls and loops were futile, it just couldn't seem to do it, or maybe I should be saying that I was unable to make it do it.  Perhaps a more experienced simmer can do it with the P-51.

I'll likely buy the maule at some point in time, just not today.  I am already feeling burned by the P-51 so it may take me a week or two before I pony up for the Maule, plus I want to see what else might come out.  Sadly, I'm a collector, but with the prices that Microsoft is charging for the planes it doesn't look like I'll be able to do much collecting in the game, what with $20.00 planes.

I guess it may be a while before they add another continent that would make it worthwhile for them to add a 747 or some other jumbo jets to the game, but when they do, I'll likely snap it up right away as I love the jumbo's.  Hell if they put out a cesna with a glass cockpit like what is available in FSX, I'd likely snap it up as soon as it came out as the cesna with the glass cockpit is my 2ND favorite, only after a jumbo jet.

I think that the slight jerkiness in multiplayer isn't so much performance on our computers but rather the whole multiplayer code and any lag that we or the other players in our multiplayer game are experiencing, (i.e. some players with a high ping) might be causing it because I bumped all the settings to maximum including shadows in single player free flight and it was super smooth, as said, like silk.  But when I was in a multiplayer game briefly, there was a slight hitching anytime that a new player would join the group, and any time that another players aircraft would come in and out of view.  I just figure that it's their multiplayer code lagging us and not a graphics lag.

By the way do you know where I can pick up my first "job" in the game?  All the airports that I've clicked on so far and checked their job boards have the locked icon and won't let me try to do them.  Is there one particular airport that one must start in to get the first job?

Yeah, I think the Hawaiian pack was a necessity for me, as I do so hate being limited, I know I would have eventually wanted to fly off to one of the other islands and to not be able to would have just frustrated me so for $20.00 I figured it would be worth it.

How did you host a session?
When I clicked the multiplayer option in the left menu, all I see is "Quick Match" but nothing to be the host of a session.

I agree about the missions and jobs.  It does offer me the feeling that I'm doing something besides just watching the scenery go by.  I hope that somewhere down the line they'll offer some serious DLC (hoping also that it's not priced out in the stratosphere too) that will end up offering more missions and jobs, as I said, I want to feel that I'm doing something more than just watching the scenery go by which for me is quite common in flight sims.

Heh, I remember the first time that I tried going cross continental from Los Angles to Tel Aviv, it was something like a 12 or 18 hour flight, with most of it just watching the waves under the plane.  If I remember correctly (and the brain is getting faulty as I get older unfortunately), I seem to remember just sticking it on auto pilot and taking a snooze in my chair in front of my desk while the plane made about 4 or 5 hours of the trip with nothing but ocean under neath it.  I think after that I learned about accelleration in FSX if I'm not mistaken.

Well, overall it's a nice Flight sim, it's not really 'feature rich' as of yet, but hope of hopes, that they'll be adding in some of the features that many have gotten use to their being in FSX.
But let us hope that they don't price it to break our piggy banks.  Would seriously suck to find every DLC at $15 to $20 and not offer all that much.  But with the price of that Maule, it seems that it might actually head that way, which would be a drag.  I'm not a big DLC buyer for games in the first place but when it's good stuff, I'm willing to pony up at least a little scratch, just don't want every single DLC being $15 or $20.  Next thing you know, this $20.00 game will have cost like that Trains 2012 game, where if you bought every DLC, it would have cost something like $1800.00

Yea there really is a difference of opinion at avsim.  I was put off at first but I am enjoying flight out of the box more than I ever had with any prior fs.

As for hosting, hit the multiplayet tab on the map hit settings and choose public.  Thats it, you are now hosting a multiplayer section.

As for jobs hit free fly on the left of the map.  Then the map will list all the airports.  From there click on the airport and hit the job listing btn.

So far the rv that comes with the hawaii pack has satisfied my speed need.  Cruises at about 150, and is very maneuverable.  I ended up picking up the maule, and man is it a workhorse and has great speed as well.

Oh, I misread your question about jobs.  You probably just need a higher level.  Should tell you in the bottom right, or there is some mission you need to complete first.

Ah, very good thanks  for the information.  I'll take a look at the job boards this afternoon and see if I can pick something up.

Okay, I'm going to try to get on and see if I can take off.  I crashed and burned a short while ago trying to take off to go get a burger and completely forgot that I had reversed my mouse backwards so I moved the mouse to the bottom of my screen to try to take off and it never did, ended up in some ravine with rocks and trees, with the plane finally coming to rest in a river. Laughing  I'm just sooooo good at this.

Microsoft Flight already discontinued?

I was over at the MS Flight website and found this:

SUPPORT REMINDER
July 27, 2012 Comments:0
We know there are a number of questions out there in the community about the discontinuation of development for Microsoft Flight. We wanted to make to be sure to clarify a few things. While we will not be continuing active development, we are committed to keeping Flight available for our community to enjoy. All the content you have paid for is still valid, and the content that is available for sale will continue to be available on http://www.microsoft.com/games/flight/ If any further information becomes available for us to share, we will do so.  If you do have questions about errors you run into or have gameplay questions;

-------------
I find it hard to believe that the game just came out and now they're already discontinuing it.  Honestly, I feel ripped off as I feel that I need more places to fly than what I've been able to buy thus far and without it, I have no real use for the content that I have bought.

Did not hear that.  Really shocking... especially with the lack of planes.

Honestly though they kind of did it to themselves.  Flight Simulator is a niche market and they really alienated their main base while trying to cater to everyone.  The lack of cockpits I know turned many off, including me.  I was going to buy the carbon cub, but I probably won't now, and I had just uninstalled FSX as I rather enjoyed the direction of flight.

At least the implemented track ir before they discontinued it.

Damn this is disappointing...

I agree, it is disappointing.

I went looking around to see if there is any other flight sims that are considered to be really good, but of course how good they are depends on the community that you're reading from.  For example if I go to a FSX forum they'll say that XP10 sucks, and the other way around as well.

I went to go and check out X-Plane 10 this morning, since I've got X-Plane 9 but when I saw the $70.00 price tag and found out that they have to physically send you the installation disks because primarily, it's because it's a total of 8 dual layer 8GB DVD's.  Yeah if the price tag of 70.00 wasn't enough to turn me off, the thought of sitting here and loading 64GB worth of data onto my 185GB SSD drive had me scrambling to close the browser tab.

There was some other flight sim that I read about as well, made by oh who is it... (Lockheed Martin I think)  Prepar3D,  I think that's the name of the product over at
http://www.prepar3d.com/prepar3d-academic/
They apparently have 2 versions, a $199.00 version and an academic $49.95 version.

Oh well...

I guess I'm going to have to either dig out my X-Plane 9 or my FSX disk and reinstall from those.  Don't get me wrong, I'd love to get X-Plane 10 but $69.99 just seems really off the wall crazy high.  Hell the guy gets something like $700 for a commercial license for X-Plane 10, he should be just giving away the game version license  Big Smiley Grin Laughing
