Just so you guys know if you are interested.

Microsoft Flight has been released.  It is a free-to-play flight simulator.  It is pretty nice, the graphics are a slight step-up from FSX and the performance seems better.
You can fly around the main island of hawaii and there are two aircraft.  If you want to fly around all of hawaii you have to shell out $20.  But if you always wanted to try a modern FS but did not want to shell out the money, and just want to be able to jump in and fly, then I recommend you give this a try.

Saw you playing it yesturday, thought my xbox had just cut out the 'simulator' part of it heh. I always loved flight simulator and want to play the new one, but not keen on forking out for it yet, just bought Forza 4 which is amazing. In my infinite immaturity and wisdom, the first thing I did with my my first car (a pink granny car) was sticking [*******]' all over the bonnet.

Thanks for the heads up, I might have to dig out my flight yoke and give it a go.

Hahahahaha, lovely screen shot attached to this post...

I crashed on the tutorial mission and got a screen telling me "nicely done". Laughing

Performance is doing really well on my recently purchased "gaming" laptop (the i7 now with 16GB of system RAM, and a 2GB Nvidia 560m GTX video card), I've jacked up all settings to high, but with shadows on medium and while I have not yet benched it with Fraps, it's almost as smooth as a a baboons backside, with only the occasional hiccup here and there like if I try to turn the plane too fast, then theres a slight hitch, but otherwise it's performing very very well, far better than FSX ever did for me on my desktop.

Guess I should re-install FSX on my laptop and see how it does since my laptop is newer gen hardware than my desktop was when I had FSX installed on it.

This is a *new* game right?

I ask because it's listing the specs as Windows XP and doesn't even seem to list Windows 7 as a supported operating system, although so far it seems to work okay on my Win 7 laptop.

Also, Crowebird, did you buy Hawaii pack, and if so do you think it is worth the $20.00?

I hate limiting myself when it comes to games and so far I REALLY enjoy the way that the icon plane handles though I know I'll be bored with the icon in no time at all and want to fly all the Hawaiian islands.  Wondering if there is enough content in the Hawaii pack to make it worth the purchase or not.

Thanks

@ Bru, it is 100% free, you get two aircraft to fly and can fly the main island of hawaii.  It is enjoyable, have just flow only the main island really so far myself.

with that said @CB - yea I forked out the $20, seems worth it to me.  Not only do you get to explore all of hawaii, but you get more missions and challenges, and you get another plane, the rv-a9, which I have pretty much spent all my time in so far.  Even if I didn't care for the extra land or plane, I already have probably 8 hours in it, and that is worth $20 to me!

Also the Multiplayer is great!  Finally in FS you can tell what other people are doing and what they are flying.  It gets a little choppy if you are flying side by side, but from the ground watching another, the planes move as you would expect them to move without any lag, and clear detail to how they are flying.
Ended up in a 16 person match simply by leaving my session open to the public, it was great fun!

As far as performance, Flight is running so much better than FSX ever has, max settings out of the box, with 3 screens on (resolution 6170x1080) and no studdering, and frame rates smooth as silk.  Im even thinking about ponying up another $15 to get the maule aircraft.  (The fighter does not seem worth it to me, it is only $7 but does not include a cockpit, so I am probably going to stay away from it).

==

Another thing I like about flight so far is the missions and jobs, I feel like my flights have a purpose, and the challenges are fun.  The game is missing AI aircraft, ATC, and other critical things (like track ir) [they should show up eventually].  But my afternoon of multi made me feel much better... no need really for AI when I'm flying with other real people.
The downside I do see to multi (considering this is a free game), is people will probably show up with the sole intent of crashing into you in order to ruin your flight.  Luckily did not see any of that tonight.

==

I hope my ramblings helped anyone on the fence :D - it is free, so why not?
[Again I do recommend the hawaii pack if you think you would get into it CB, the plane alone that comes with it makes it all the more worth it]

What is your username on Windows Live Crowebird, maybe we can fly together.  I figured it would be crowebird so I sent a friend request to that user then a note asking if it was you from here and if not to just ignore my friend request.  Don't know if that was you or not.

My in game name is Jalida.
