It looks as though I may be the first new member of 2008.   Happy New Year to all, and I'm glad to be joining you!   Happy Dance

I am currently playing CivCity Rome, and am nearing the end of my campaigns.   I have had Stronghold2 for quite some time, but haven't played yet.   Perhaps that will be my next game.   The first City Builder game I played was the original Stronghold, and found that I really enjoyed city building.

I also have Sid Meier's Railroad (the latest version - 3?).   I had really been looking forward to that, but was sorely disappointed.   I spend two evenings with this game, and found it VERY buggy.   I didn't get far enough to see any city builder type features.   If there are others out there that enjoyed this game, please let me know. . . . perhaps I didn't give it a fair chance.

In reading the other posts, it looks as though there are many, many games that I will have to catch up on. . . . . yea!  Can't wait!

A few questions. . . . Anno 1701. . . . Is that the name of the game? When I did a google search of this title, I came up with nothing.   It also seems to be an overwhelming favorite on this site (as well as Children of the Nile).   I had assumed that was a game for children. . . .

Hello and Welcome Hi katmandu2 .. Welcome to City Builder Forums!!

Glad you've found several games most of this membership has played and enjoyed.    Smiley Blink

This game is the third installment of a German Dev team.. they are called Anno in Europe.  Here in the states they are call A.D.  This game started with (US) 1602 AD or Anno 1602 in the Euro community.  Then 1503 and 1701 followed.. all with the Anno or AD designation for the retail markets.

The Stronghold series is popular too.. as we have had some contact with the Developers of their creations  CivCity:Rome is an example.  If you haven't played Stronghold 2 yet you have some playing time ahead of you.. though a few members liked the Legends (Title) really well.

Children of the Nile

Whoa..not a children only game..many adults found this one a great Egyptian builder..and a great advancement over the Original Pharaoh Cleopatra some of us grew up with..or started our City building playing addiction.  I started mine with the Caesar I,II, III series.. once I found this genre it kept me really hooked.   wink

Yes a few of us tried this one.. I found issues too.. in some cases the game just wasn't well thought out where rail traffic controls etc were concerned.. plus some basic programming flaws that CTD..the game unexpectedly.. it is well documented.  So we just go on to a game that has better delivery.. that's what I do at least.

Certainly appreciate your joining our CB community..and posting.  We are always interested in what other players are enjoying ..and like to hear about their game experiences.  Hope you can see we have that in common..

Thanks again for posting..  Thumbs Up

Happy new year katmandu2 and welcome to our forum. Hello and Welcome
Here is a link to the English speaking Anno forums
http://forums-de.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/frm/f/5251042375
For some reason the main site is all in German, and they have no plans to add an English part of the site. Thumbs Down
There's supposed to be an addon for this game in February, with a world editor, so we're looking forward to that. Agreed Happy

Hello and Welcome Jeepers. . . . all of you have made me feel so welcome.

Ok. . . . . I'm convinced.   I need to buy Anno and Children of the Nile, among others.   I can see that this will be an expensive relationship I am forging.   I will need to check, but I hope that they are compatible with Vista.

Again, thanks for the welcome!

Anno and Children of the Nile are great.   Happy Dance

Have you tried any of the older city builder games like Pharaoh or SimCity 4 etc? Another game which is great is "Spring Break/Virtual Resort"  Tho not really a city builder as such  but you do need to  maintain the holidaymakers/staff happiness by managing  economy/pollution/entertainment etc. It is  fun/amusing and definately not  a "b" grade game.

I took your advise and bought Spring Break/Virtual Resort.  It is VERY cute...and a great diversion.  Sometimes I need a break from a campaign on CivCity:Rome, Stronghold, etc. and this is one I will return to for a long time.  Very amusing.

Thanks for the advise!   wink
