Well, this has been a massive effort.  With the release of the latest patch and the addition of the harder game modes, I've been blissfully playing along and decided it was time to go for the Jack of All Trades trophy in order to try the next difficulty.  So here is a LENGHTY City Diary for West Dorian.

I am just particularly proud of this city!  I think it 'makes sense' and has everything!  It finally feels finished to me!  There were a couple spots I could have expanded, but the constraints of population and lag make that not practical at this point.  I offer up the savegame for anyone curious enough to take a loot at 'the spaces in between' and to see the detail this game really does afford!  If your machine can handle 25,000 pop., then by all means take a look at what I did and offer any feedback OR use the disasters and rip West Dorian to shreads!!!  Big Smiley Grin Laughing Big Smiley Grin Laughing Happy Dance

Facts on gameplay --

Difficulty: Normal
Playmode: Basic
Trophy/Statues already owned and placed at start: Legendary Bard and Sherrif
First Trophy/statue won during city build: Mayor
Finale: Jack of All Trades

Stats and conclusions --

Population: 25,643
Simoleans: 454,242
Creativity: 587/+260 left
Prosperity: 554/+1
Authority: 388/+229
Knowledge: 321/+7
Spirituality: 300/+106
Productivity: 272/+75

Worker Status --

Furious/Rogue: 13
Angry: 4
Sad: 4
Content: 13
Happy: 68
Elated: 173
Ecstatic: 787

Game specific oddity --
For the first time, I encountered a road oddity.  As I was playing and building, my city evolved into a 'romantic' type.  After this happend, when I opened up my road menu, BOTH the default and the romantic types of roads (both city and dirt) remained.  Regardless of which one I chose, however, the Romantic road was placed, so it wasn't a biggie...I mention this to cement the fact that NO CHEATS WERE USED IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF THIS CITY!

Author notes on building usage --

* The only building I feel that I overused (and always do!) was the Chess Table.  I do this NOT for the knowlegde, but because I LOVE it!  It's like a lovely park bench and with a definite need for more buildings of this type, I tend to use it.  You'll find 26 spread throughout this massive city.

* I used only six banks, which for a city of this size seems okay!

* The only other building I feel I may have placed too many taimes was the Corporate Data Center. I used four.

In all three above examples, however, you'll note that these buildings were used where, at least IMHO, they kind of 'belonged!'

So here are three initial pics and the game file...

Pic 1, my achievements screen, showing you that I actually reached Mayor (which I won during the build), Legendary Bard (had alrady won), Master of Ceremonies (didn't win because you can only win one) and Network Knight (ditto) before I got the Jack of All Trades!

Pics 2 and 3...this was the blank slate I started with!

Game file:  This file is a .zip file of West Dorian. Just unzip this file onto to your desktop and move the three files within (each I believe is necessary for the game to be shown in your saves)....then move all three files into

C:\Documents and Settings\Pat!\My Documents\SimCity Societies\User Data\(your profile name here!)\Save Games

IMPORTANT:  What I would suggest you do, so as to not mess with any of your username awards, etc., is to create a seperate user profile to upload any user games into...something like TempUser or Temppat! for me!  something that wouldn't mess with the awards and medals you're trying to build up under your original profile.  Because I honestly don't know HOW uploading a city that's already made will affect those awards and medals so this would be safest...and frankly, who knows if this all can even be done!  But it's worth a shot....if it doesn't work, then we at least know it!

Then you should be able to open the game and peek around at what I did! CB, if it's okay w/ you, I encourage others to do this so we can all learn from what each other is doing...take a loot at the details, the little things that make each person's build style unique and maybe we can then share the ideas THAT way! I am running Norton AntiVirus (University Issue, completely up-to-date), so it should be plenty safe!

Now, many many screenies to follow!

West Dorian was founded on the banks of the Pennywell River.  The south side of town features Dorian Center, our town hall and the many governemental buldings that help us run our city (pic 1).

From the northwest banks of the Pennywell, Dorian Center gleams at night (pic 2).

In the distance you can again see Dorian Center, the heart of West Dorian.  But this view is from atop one of our Sky Rise Apartments situated in the city's Eastern section, what the techies who help our city thrive and grow call RiverZone! (pic 3).

The massive size of our city is plainly evident from the countryside.  A quaint covered bridge, connecting the rural northwestern part of town to our southwestern tenements seems to vainly trying to hold off progress (pic 4).

In the northwest, the distant lights of RiverZone and Paddington Heights (in the southeast) are only a rumour as the quietude of country living still holds sway.  Between the quiter rural life and the fast hub of activity that the eastern part of West Dorian has come lies the small town heart of West Dorian, locally named Dorian Shores (pic 5).

From the cottages of Dorian Shores, the southwestern part of the city lies in the distance.  Do you see those two towering pagodas?  There is, in the heart of West Dorian, a fully contained east asian themed spiritual haven!  A lovely place with only two ways in (pic 1).

Looking north out of Dorian Center over Pennywell Bridge (pic 2).

In Dorian Shores, a more small town metric has established itself, but in all cases, this city is a blend...and it succeeds because it is comprised of many little 'neighborhoods!' (pic 3).

Even a side street in Dorian Shores is a fine pedestrian avenue.  The backside of any building in this game is still something to behold and in West Dorian, we pride ourselves on blending our 'Societies'! (pic 4).

Stoneforge Church sits high upon a hill in the rural section of town.  With Dorian Shores in the background, the church calls to its worshippers (pic 5).

From the developed streets of the Dorian Shores section of town, the backside of Stoneforge Church still stands out.  But see how the small town feel spreads onto the dirt roads of the rural farm section of town without so much as a hiccup (pic 1).

While hi-tech and finance dominate the ultimate coffers of our city, industry still has its place.  On the north shores of the Pennywell, The Greater Dorian Beer Company and Shuttlecup Spring Water are mainstays of our town's economy (pic 2).

Dorian Shores benefits from its proximity to the rural areas with farmers markets and flea markets (pic 3).

From the very north part of our city, a small child-friendly fun square sits in the foreground while Big City Life lies in the distance! (pic 4).

West Dorian was one of the first cities to embrace mechanized farming.  The self-contained farming conglomerates are situated simply on the very northern part of town, not at all a bother to the quiet cottages that surround them (pic 5).

RiverZone emerged as a technical leader in the region, but a community grew there nonetheless!  Instead of the cold, distant feel of a high-tech dystopia, RiverZone became home for spirituality, commerce and fun! (pic 1).

The skyscrapers of RiverZone domated the northeastern part of West Dorian (pic 2).

Everyone loves a Ferris Wheel!  Even the eclectic/electric denizins of RiverZone! (pic 3).

Our monolith to technology dominates the area...its sounds are at once disturbing and relaxing to those young and fast living sims driving our tech force (pic 4).

At night, the RiverZone is THE place to be! (pic 5).

Every venue a young and smart up-and-coming sim could want can be found in RiverZone.  With so many people living in the Skyrise Apartments, there HAS to be a lot for them to do! (pic 1)

From RiverZone, if you look all the way down Far East Avenue, you can see Paddington Heights in the distance (pic 2).

This scene, from the southeastern part of town, shows Paddington Heights looking north down Far East Avenue to RiverZone (pic 3).

In Paddington Heights, our more refined and relaxed denizins live, with plently for the kids to do but plenty of 'business' creeping in as well! (pic 4)

Zen Hill was first staked out by some local monks, seeking a place of respite within the busy heart of West Dorian.  From Zen Hill you can see down Central Avenue all the way across the Pennywell Bridge (pic 5).

Zen Hill became a spiritual haven for West Dorian.  Named after the hill at the little neighborhoods heart, the spiritual nature of its inhabitants happily spread throughout the entire city.  You can see plenty of Zen Hill's influences throughout West Dorian, a fact that we are proud of (pic 1).

Looking wet from Zen Hill we can see our Kerosene Distillery there on the left, it adequately lights the spartan apartments of the Monasteries (pic 2).

And while Zen Hill has influenced the entire city, the modernity of West Dorian has influenced Zen Hill in turn! (pic 3).

This is the main entrance to the Zen Hill section of town, and only one of two road entrances to the entire section (pic 4).

The presidential and public libraries act as cornerstones on the shores of the Pennywell River near the town's center.  Our Botanical Garden was one of our first buildings as well (pic 5).

In Paddington Hieghts, city life shines at night! (pic 1)

Looking over the Pennywell Bridge from Dorian Shores into Dorian Center with the twin pagodas of Zen Hill in the distance (pic 2).

On the shores of the Pennywell, behind our library, the best ice cream and floats in town can be found at Zudo's Ice Cream Shoppe and Zudo's Soda Shoppe.  Zudo is the fourth son removed of our first mayor!!! (pic 3).

Our pedestrian mall on the shores of the Pennywell offers stunning views AND balloons!!! (pic 4).

And now, DAYLIGHT! Our city spans the horizons... (pic 5).

Now you can get a better look at Zen Hill.  It borders Trundle Town, our area of low-rent housing and tenements, but it seems to do so in peace... (pic 1).

In Trundel Town, the residents take pride in the housing they have.  Flower boxes adorn the tenememnts and one man can be seen there having a beer on his patio! (pic 2).

A kid friendly fun land near the center of the city.  Our children are well attended to! (pic 3).

Looking from near city center into Trundle Town, even our lone detention center showcases our Romantic leanings!!! (pic 4).

Back on the north side of the Pennywell, the neighborhood around our brewery and spring water plant features Band Houses and all the street performers that come with them!! (pic 5).

There is a comfortable feel to the Dorian Shores section of town.  It is small town comfort near enough to the glitz and glamour of the big city to be near the center of it all! (pic 1).

Where Dorian Shores meets the country, a mission stands sentinel over the spiritual progress of our town (pic 2).

Our general store, the only one in all of West Dorian, is the only place in this huge city where you can buy nails.  We can't for the life of us figure that out!!! (pic 3).

Any city is simply a conglomeration of many little neighborhoods!! (pic 4).

Our law offices house lawyers that are ethical, we swear!!! (pic 5).
