Well, I need just one more trophy to complete all ten scenarios in my first username....the one I've been dreading!  The Jack of All Trades...I need a population of 25,000 (sweet merciful lag, i mean crap!!!), and to USE (not just produce) 150 of each societal energy.

So we begin in the desert, where the Jackson River enters into Filleget Bay, in the flat lands - or basin - created by long ago glaciers and left parched in this desert landscape.  In this attempt, I'm literaly beginning with FOUR distinct areas and hoping to organically meld them togeter as I progress.  Essentially, I have three points on a triangle and I'm going to work inward towards Town Center.  I will begin utlize no filter on this one, seeing what takes me where.  I am starting with a central area of town that would be the more upperclass high-rent city district, with a more suburban small city feel, with a zen-like area that local monks built some monestaries and with a country area filled with haciendas, pueblos and mission homes.  My bet, however, is to reach my population goal, i'm going to need to find a way to blend in a hi-tech sort of technopunk area to take advantage of cube appartments and the like.  My goal is to NOT use any housing that causes general unhappiness (slums, government apartments, trailers, etc.).

So here we go!

The first three,

We begin our quest for a well-rounded city!  Note in pic three a wonderful distant view!

The fourth, the beginnings of a river walk area that showcases all nine monuments earned to date!

The fifth, the buddhists have crafted themselves a wonderfully restive neighborhood, complete with a winmill!

pat!

The first, a zen paradies on Filleget Peninsula!

The second, Basin Park, which banks the Jackson River near its entry to the bay, has become a gathering place for young and old as shops begin to pop up on our wonderful pedestrian plazas.

The third, Dornly Street near Basin Park, where apartments give easy access to Jackson Basin's many venues!

The fourth, another quality shot from Basin Park!

The fifth, Tellemond Street which sits at the opposite end of center city and leads across South Bridge to College Hill, a smaller suburb that houses our liberal arts school!

The first, from College Hill looking west towards the Greater Basin Desert.

The second, from College Hill looking east towards Filleget Bay.

The third, Learned Avenue, College Hill's main thoroughfare.

The fourth, back to Basin Park we see the local lawyer's office resplendent in our burgeoning romantic glory, how a small alleyway leads to big fun and how business, pleasure and housing can all inhabit the same area!

What I've noticed overall is that my streets took on the Romantic Theme about two hours into the build but I'm sure as I begin to work towards a better balance, they'll shift back or to something else!  Although I hope not because I love these roads!  Although the contemplative would be nice, too!

later,
pat!

Jackson Basin continues its growth!

The first, a public park in College Hill, where the condominiums meet the college's business district.

The second, third, fourth and fifth, on Serenity Peninsula, a small collection of homesteaders took up residence, building a sedate little community right off the beaten path...just walk between two of Jackson College's faculty homes on the brick path and you'll find your way to their homes....they have a balloon!!!

NOTE:  This area comprises all of a nice littel peninsula sticking out into the bay...no roads connect it to the rest of the city but the residents seem okay w/ that.  I did, however, place a bus station nearby (to the left of one of the Dream Houses) in order to shorten whatever commutes the Sims have...

Four more...

The first, one more from Serenity Peninsula

The second, well realzing that I need to up my population in a BIG way, a central economic/big business sector of town was developed..it began w/ a couple residences and some more advanced businesses were added and...my roads and building themes switched over to the big business/productivity theme!  I'll be curious to see what happens as I shift my attentions elsewhere...frankly, I'm hoping for a switch back to romantic or perhaps contemplative!

The third, where Old Town meets New Town!

The fourth, from the countryside, New Town glimmers in the desert's evening air!

pat!

Pat you put us all to shame.  Your cities are so wonderful, I only hope my will develope to at least half as nice as yours.

What type of power do you usually use?  I've been using wind farms, but they eventually tale up a lot of room.

thanks cat!! Big Smiley Grin Laughing Big Smiley Grin Laughing

I use almost strictly the Hydrogen Power Plant...clean and gives 6,000 kw...

This city is bouncing back and forth between Economical Powerhouse and Romantic but as I am now forced to throw in a few sleep tubes just to get my population up, who knows where it will go!!!!

I'm using NO filters at all, which really forces me to try and strike a kind of balance!

Here are a couple more!

The first, as my general them altered itself back to Romantic, we see that even a back alley can be turned into a nice little residential street with a couple shops!

The second, Jackson College's southside is complete...with the dry desert in the distance all the needs of your prototypical artsy college kid are being met in the College Hill, the tiny town that has sprung up on all sides of the school!

pat!

Do you use the power substations and what exactly do they do?

I looked in my guide and the Hydrogen Power Plant is Coal-Hydrogen Power Plant and it produces a lot of carbon and is not unlocked at the beginning of the game.
