tiania....can you post something more concrete? CB, Max, UC and a bunch of the others are VERY knowledgeable in this stuff and I bet they can at least give this a shot!  Also, be sure to check out the tilted mill forum

http://www.tiltedmill.com/forums/

The game's developers frequent it quite a lot!

Damn, sorry I can help directly, I haven't as much technical knowledge as I'd like to!

But I bet the TM board might be some help if someone here can't help you!

pat!

Hi AVALONIA

Sorry you are having this issue..  a few others are in the same shape.

Reading your Dxdiag.. I see a few items where these sneaky exceptions like to take advantage of .. first here's the game system requirements.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
-------------------
* OS: Windows(R) XP SP2 / Vista*
* Processor: 1.7 GHz inte l CPU or faster, AMD XP 2100+ or faster
* Memory: 512 MB RAM
* Hard drive: at least 2.1 GB free space
* Video card: 128 MB**
* DVD drive: 4 speed
* Sound Card - DirectX 9.0c compatible
* DirectX - Version 9.0c (included on disc)
* Input - Keyboard, Mouse
*Windows Vista requires a 2.4 GHz processor or equivalent and 1 GB RAM.
**Supported chipsets: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 or greater; ATI Radeon 9600 or greater; onboard chipsets not supported. Windows Vista requires an NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or greater, ATI Radeon X600 or greater. Laptop versions of these chipsets may work but are not supported. Updates to your video and sound card drivers may be required.

In your system report you note where there's like this..

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3800+,  MMX,  3DNow, ~1.0GHz

This has been a very good and durable processor..but may be over-tasked in games like SC:S...correction here..as I recall this proc should be rated at 2Ghz..or better...so not the core of this issue I would think.  Just wonder why your dxdiag lists it this way.. Mm?

Another area is your Realtek sound has 2005 drivers.. probably should be updates to current demands that might be requested in some game situations.

With all the advise and critiquing I could offer..I'm an old firend of Keith H.. we go back many years in assisting gamers with techy problems ..he on Sierra's site me on a very active Fansite.

This error you are getting arises from an array of possibilities.. since it crops up when there's a conflict between what the game wants to..or is calling, and Windows in it's self protecting state won't allow the process to clear.

Sometimes it is a graphic driver that is the culprit..where the game wants to implement a feature and it fails to find the correct calculation to make it happen.. and the result is a failure..and error to Windows.  This is why Drivers are a first suggestion in most problematic issues with games.

In your instance I would try to set you PC up to a performance setting.  Your X300 will possibly be placed in a better position to comply to the heavy game demand.

This is where I would start.. lower a few graphic settings in game too.. One thing is..we can hope that the Devs..who are aware of these issues can produce a patch that addresses some of these overburdening tasks.. especially if is Graphics card specific (ATI) ..as an example.

Let us know if some of the things you try..and the results.  That will help pinpoint where to go next.. if it is necessary.

Here's hoping you know  we share your disappointment..when not getting "to play"  is involved. Smiley Blink

 Hello and Welcome  Thanks for posting AVA

Then you might be reaching the thresholds I am..and I have a brand new PC..with the latest goodies.  I found that as I continue to build and the more complex my towns become..there's a real crunch on my system.  Some call it lag.. but it is more than just that.

I sense that there's some hole in the game code..since C++ can mask some integrity problems ..for awhile then there's no way out.  I've never had any exceptions..or freezes..just the "working in molasses" effect.. poor mouse response..etc.  So I know there's no joy ahead.

I think a patch is definitely in our future..and hopefully the root of most of all problems will be addressed.  Still each players system is unique.. so ol tech like me will harp on about the usual areas to check.

So at what point in your play time did all this start to happen?  Do you have routines that keep you PC in tip top performing mode?... every little bit helps.. wink

Again thanks for posting about this..

The game has given me a couple C++ errors, game exceptions etc.  But for me the fix was very unconventional because I don't really care about my computer and data, and the fix for me was to actually wipe it clean and reinstall the OS from fresh.  Since then I have still had one game crash but only one.  But I don't build massive cities like some folks attempt to do.

As far as what AVALONIA said, that the game was working fine until last night, it makes me wonder two things:
1. What was installed or updated on the computer prior to the game starting to have this problem if anything.
2. How did the game run at all on the x300 video card (chip?) when it requires the x600 from ATi.

There is of course the slim possiblity that the video drivers have become corrupt and maybe a cleaning of them to remove them and then reinstall the latest ones for the video card that is in your computer might help, though I think it a very slim chance.

Realtek drivers IMO have always been behind the times, but have usually been pretty solid.

I think logically that there must have been something changed on the computer that all of a sudden the game will no longer launch and we must only to remember what that was, and reverse it or fix it so that the game can launch again.  That is usually the culprit when a game is working good for a while and then one day it stops working good.

And finally, I'd head over to the TM forum and see if one of the brainiacs in their tech forum can lend you some assistance, in all honests I don't recall seeing much more than some folks seemingly trying to genuinely help other gamers with their problems but not much on the resolution side of actually hearing that somethings been fixed.  Most of the time I've read simply, "your computer does not meet the minimimum specs there for you won't be able to run it" but it never hurts to go and ask.  Be sure to post your dxdiag.txt file in a message over there as they are quite adamant about having that before they even say "boo" to you.

I wish you the best of luck, and remember to try to think if anything you have changed on your computer, even sometimes minor things that we think are not related can be the culprit.

Hi there !!

Do you know how to back your computer to an earlier date using the --- System Restore Point ??

You can try this if you know what you are doing.

WARNING. You will lose any data added after the date you choose. Exception is the "My Documents" folder..

But if you don't know anything about the "System Restore Point" it's better Not to use it.
