I'm sure it's just me, but I've just spend a couple hours looking through the TM forum and the EA forum and I could not for the life of me figure out how to:

1) Add a building or even change its color

2) Add textures or new items

3) Find out even where to begin!

I know, I don't know XML like the back of my hand but you'd think that TM would supply just a simple step-by-step guide for the general public called "So you want to add your own house to the game....."  and just guide us through it.  One of those would basically tell you how to do EVERYTHING in the game.

Just thinking...with so much travel time for me coming up, it'd be nice to do some stuff but alas, I'm lost!!! Big Smiley Grin Laughing Big Smiley Grin Laughing

Pat is not alone, editing the game files is primitive at best IMO.  All this hand editing is ridiculous for a game in todays modern age.

TM said they are working on the possibility of a way of getting new buildings into the game but at the moment we are limited to adding new textures and reskinning buildings.  Reskinning buildings in my opinion isn't what I'd like to see in my cities.  When all buildings still have the same shape and only a different color I might as well just continue to use the original buildings so that I don't get mod bloat in my game (i.e. have building panels open up to hundreds of the same buildings in different colors), I don't remember which game it was (probably Sims 2) where you could place an object and choose it's color.  They should have done that for this game too IMO, so that we could have one cottage and 12 or more colors for the cottage to choose from, but alas they didn't do it that way.

The modding system at the moment leaves a great deal to be desired.

First - GRATS UC!! I retired a couple of years ago - I LOVE IT!!

CB - yeah that is the Sims2 - With the Original (and expansions) Game included items there may be 4 different colors of - say a sofa - to choose from. Modders have really made this game a Joy! Without the new items they have created - I thing the game would have sunk along time ago!

Sims1 was more difficult to Mod (even recolor items) than Sims2. There are "outside" programs available to make Modding a 1-2-3 done thing!! Just go into the program - choose what you want to recolor - change it in a Paint program - add back to the program and Wow - a new color for your item. (Not quite that easy but you get the idea).

At this point in SimCity Societies I would be OVERJOYED with just recolor's or the ability to do it myself!!

Pat - I am very glad you started this thread - I was really feeling as dumb as a box of rocks for not figuring this all out!!
