I too am feeling a bit hemmed in by the selection process (not enough filtering, thus resulting in tedious means of selecting building varieties) and not enough diversity in the buildings.  Plus the 90 degree placement of roads usually means there's only so many layouts of a city you can actually lay down.  Now there's still a lot of city types I haven't built, and with the decorative items, a lot of ways to personalize the citys, but in the grand scheme of things, in the big picture, all my cities are tending to look very very very similiar...  Very grid-like...

I really hope Tilted Mill/EA come out with exapnsions, and/or prefereably free updates (ahhh, I know, wishful thinking...)...

I actually had my first lock-up the other night, locked up on me three times in a row in a city where I had over 12k citizens...  It was the first time I had ever experienced a lock-up in this game thus far...

And pad11, when it comes to scatter-brained in regards to games, I know exactly how you feel.  Actually, it wasn't until I joined this website and the conversations between you, MaxBeta and CityBuilder did I find out about all the games I was missing out on, and had to go right out and buy...  It's all your fault... heh heh heh

I've lately been considering Settlers 6, Rise of an Empire... I have it already, just hadn't installed it because of some of the things I've heard about it...  I know it's not a city builder, but still sounded intriguing, assuming I don't run into any of these bugs or crashes... But then again, I heard the same things about SimCity: Societies, and except for the other night, I hadn't experienced any of the problems, and I'm running SimCity: Societies turned up on high on all my settings... So perhaps I'd be lucky with Settlers: RoaE...  I also installed City Life World Edition as well recently, and have been trying to figure it out... Sheesh, talk about building repitition... Now that game has massive building repitition...

Actually, I think I can list about 20 games I've purchased in the last year strictly because of you 3 characters...   Big Smiley Grin Laughing

I had my game freeze up just one time - then I read somewhere that it might be a "corrupt" auto-save file - so I deleted all of my Auto-Saved games - I have not locked up since.

TeeHee bear in mind that I have had to reinstall my game - so I am not going to confirm this - but it is worth a try to get rid of all the Extra Auto-Saved games.

Pam, I think you're right about the freeze-up. I had one and deleted the auto-save files (also set them to save less often) and have not had one since.  Smiley Blink

I was offline for a while due to a storm blocking out my satellite ISP, but I'm back online now and have downloaded the Prima game guide. It looks very good, altho I haven't had time yet to look at the whole thing. I started printing it and ran out of ink about half way through (it's huge).  Flaming Mad Now I'll have to go to town and get some ink. I tried using online purchased ink once and it leaked ink all over my printer.  Flaming Mad
Never again!

My Romantic city upgraded it's streets. At first I thought a lot of trash was accumulating in the street but closer inspection showed that it is man hole covers  Looking around cautiously Also there are public phone now along the streets.  Agreed Happy

Avalonia!  Give it a shot!  And thanks!

Just unzip this file onto to your desktop and move the three files within (each I believe is necessary for the game to be shown in your saves along w/ correct mini-map, etc.)....then move all three files into

C:\Documents and Settings\Pat!\My Documents\SimCity Societies\User Data\(your profile name here!)\Save Games

IMPORTANT:  What I would suggest you do, so as to not mess with any of your username awards, etc., is to create a seperate user profile to upload any user games into...something like Usergames or TempAvalonia!  Something that wouldn't mess with the awards and medals you're trying to build up under your original profile.  Because I honestly don't know HOW uploading a city that's already made will affect those awards and medals so this would be safest...and frankly, who knows if this all can even be done!  But it's worth a shot....if it doesn't work, then we at least know it!

Then you should be able to open the game and peek around at what I did and improve upon it, make it better, make it yours!!!!

later,
pat!
