The Gold Flats by pat!  Capitalism on the continental savannah!

Okay, let's give THIS a shot...a capitalistic heaven on the savannah?  Maybe!  We'll see...

The first five from a newly forming city...

"I was feeling so refreshed after nearly a year of bucolic splendor in Hallu Commons, I decided to head west, to the savannah, at the behest of my father to help him in a project.  'They tell me that the air is too dry to really attract the money changers,' my father told me.  'I think they're nuts!'  The land is ours, ripe for development and just flat enough for us to spread our wings.  Go, build me something spectactular...build me something to make me proud'."

The first, we started with a wider footprint than normal, many of the workers built their homes in the distance, content with a more laid back settlement, but the financial district has been planned.

The second, out in the flatlands, where the Hasienda's house our more robust soulds...there is still the need for venues, for workplaces, for commerce...

The third, the appearance of chateua's was a welcome addition to our building pantheon.  It seems the real estate agents love them!  Note how they are staggered, off the road a bit!

The fourth and the fifth, the Shoppes at Brownstone Walk, a by-foot colonade of shops and restaurants backing the Brownstone section of homes in the city limits.

pat!

WTG Pat!

Love the brick Walkway! Looks good and it will be fun to see how it progresses.

I just started a Capitalism city as well - but did Not get very far before we had to go to a Company "do" this evening. I will work on it tomorrow and see how it advances while watching yours.

Thanks mappam!!!!  CB's brick walkway is a godsend!

Here are some more...

pat!

The first, the school zone for the Flats...plenty to do and plenty to see...

The second, the streets, upgraded thanks to our capitalistic bent, are clean and spartan...

The third, from the distance, our suspension bridges are a monument to how far we come while the open spaces are a testimony to how far we yet can go!

The fourth, from the rural outlands, city center shines!

The fifth, Vesta Bridge, looking from the rural suburbs into downtown

The second, another moment in the suburbs...why so many cops???

The third, my sims are ECSTATIC...because there is so darn much to do!!

pat!

Pat - good job! Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Do you start your towns in "normal" or "relaxed" mode?

I have been doing the Normal but my Capitalism (new town) I started in Relaxed as I wanted access to the Victorian houses  Laughing. I am hoping that the city will Advance???

I got into bed last night - and as tired as I was I couldn't stop thinking about this game - grrr - almost got up. I want to search for some ACUTAL town layouts - from quaint New England townships and Mid-Western farming communities to Old World Euro villages (Zel Germany on the Mosel River kind of look).

I noticed something interesting a few years ago (while visiting my sister in Illinois). The town she lives in is like a "water ring" when you drop a rock into a pond. The very center is the "old town" or original area - victorian houses and quaint(ish) buildings. As you move to the next rings the town gets 'newer'. You can see a whole "ring" where the houses were build right after the War (40-50's) then it is the 60's look (raised ranches) and then you have the New Building that has spread out into the (old) farmland with upscale neighborhoods.

It would be so fun to try something like this - but we are missing those Raised Ranch - 60's design of homes.

And each of these "rings" have their own little shopping/school areas. Think 50's gas station and burger drive-in.

SOOOO many ideas to try!!

Thanks again for sharing - I really need to remember to take some pics of my towns!

thanks mappam!!!  I definitely start in normal mode!

And BAM you've just given a great idea w/ the water rings concept!  Definitely something to try and perhaps you can substitute the chalet's for the raised ranches!!!!

I am going to start a "water ring" type as well - hmmmm - small town or romantic or...I will try to remember to take some pics - and then we can compare towns to see what we each created, how it progresses and then ends up.

Good idea about the chalets - I will try that and see how it looks.

I can't wait for the Modding to be fixed or made easier or something so I can change some of the stuff to things/colors/textures I want in my game  Laughing

The Gold Flats develops nightlife!  The young, fast moving, hard partying executives and technocrats that make The Gold Flats go took to the new Riverwalk Night Zone with gusto!  From theaters to night clubs to comedy to video gaming centers, restaurants and liquor stores and even a tatoo parlor!  What more could the young pseudo-urban hip need!

Pics 1 through 5 showcase the three main sectors of the RNZ, as they call it, including one on Trundle STreet, which boldly utilizes the backsides of the clubs and turns it into a public gathering place of some alure! (see pic 5 for that!).

pat!

More from the Gold Flats!  I had 13 hours worth or wrestling yesterday, I about forgot what the heck i was doin' here!!!

BTW...many skyscrapers + 13,000 or more sims + 1900x1220 reso = A LAG THAT WOULD STOP A BUS!!!!

The first, CB's brick walk has opened up an entirely new design world for me!  And my sims can walk along the shores of all their waterways!

The second, city life by the waterfront

The third, my business district expands!

The fourth, I built a casino and it turned into another brick business way!

The fifth, Casino Alley!  A fine pedestrian mall!

And a few more!

The first, a long view down Delvin Ave., towards City Hall and City Bridge in the distance!

The second, where the city meets the savannah, a race track and a concert hall led to a great public space for everyone.

The third, Memorial Fountain by the concert hall...

pat!
