I just wanted to pass along a great big thanx to pad11 specifically, but others as well for showing your work in SimCity: Societies.   I've enjoyed all the "city journals" immensely, and they inspire me to try to get a bit more of of this game. . .

One question, how much planning do you put into these cities before building?  I seem to just build as needed, although I typcially try to plan out which area will be residential, which area will be venues, etc. . .   Unfortunately, I usually end up with a big mish-mash of buildings that rarely reflect my initial yet brief plan.

I will second this thanks!

I find that no matter what I start with - I always want to see all happy faces  Big Smiley Grin Laughing and I want everything to "match" (all the Country looking stuff in one area etc). I can't seem to just "Let Go" and play as a Fantasy...

Wizaerd!  No problem!  It's fun and i'm glad folks are looking at 'em!

As for pre-planning, I do tend to do a bit...I try to have a backstory in mind before I start the city...then I like to create a city center area for where the main public building will go to start, decide upon a suburban residential area AND a more rural residential area and kind of go from there....ROADS are cheap to start, so there's never a problem with initial $$ in setting up a good size network to begin with.  Just remember to have a couple workplaces and venues by each residential area you begin with (with some happiness garnering venues in there) and you should be fine!

later,
pat!
