Okay folks, it's just a teaser page and the specifics are not finalized because they haven't even begun taking pre-orders...but WOOOT!!!

I almost pulled the trigger on the m9750 and then stumbled upon THIS...the Area 51 m17x...

The specs are obviously not finalized but look at what it's going to pack!!

I can wait till next quarter for this...YES I CAN!!!

pat!

Go for the Ripley design.  I think the Skullcap design looks terrible, even though it matches their theme of what they've been doing to some of their desktops.

What is a smartbay?  I assume it's a way to swap hard drives easily, or maybe add some other components if you don't wish to use two hard drives.

I really like the red backlit keyboard, I wish that Microsoft would make one of their natural keyboards with backlit keys.

CB!  This thing is going to offer dual nVidia 8800mGTX 512 cards, core duo extreme processors and a 17" 1900x1220 widescreen....WOOOOO!!!!  All that w/ three hard drives and (I heard) 6 gigs of RAM!

And all for about $600 more than what I almost jumped at buying this week...WHEW!

As for design?  HA...I'm still not completely sure about going w/ ripley or skullcap...my current one is skullcap, but the ripley is SOOO SLEEK!

And I'm a blue Alien fan, man! Love that otherwordly hue!

I'm so pumped about NOT jumping the gun too early that I'm shaking...THIS I can wait for!

YES!

They say next quarter, and since it was rumored to be mid-Nov., I'm hopeful for a late Dec. to January call from Alien-James to let me know I can build my machine!

pat!

How many problems have you had with your Alien Pat!?

I know you had to send it back in at least once, was there any other occasions of problems with it, even minor ones?

CB...I had to send my Alien back twice...for the SAME problem...the video card went I we have surmised it was because the heatsink failed....So yeah, that's hanging out there...the frustrating part was the 'sending it back' thing...just really a killer.  Had they not mis-diagnosed it in the first place, that wouldn't have left such a bad taste in my mouth....but the DID increase my warranty by six months, which is actually pretty cool.

The other problems I've had have ALL been Windows related...I think w/ all the software installing/uninstalling I just corrupt the hell out of my registries, etc., and well, you gotta rebuild the system every now and again....I do get a RAID 0 config, and unfortunately AW will NOT allow us to partition the drives upon order, so THAT is why rebuilding the OS is always such a pain in the butt.

Overall, I've had to rebuild the OS 4 times in 3+ year (I really should make it a habbit of doing that every six months anyway) and had to send it back those two times....

BTW...here's more on this baby!

http://laptoping.com/alienware-area-51-m17x-m15x.html

BTW..when....WHEN (not if now!!!) I order this (as soon as they let me!) I'll post my specs...Oh geez, I don't know if I was this excited when my wife told me she was pregant!!!

pat!

I think this line alone is enough to put me off of one no matter how nice they are (and they are nice): m17x will be priced at $5,628

Honestly I can't see justifying a purchase price of that much for any kind of laptop or desktop for that matter.   But if it's what you want, then more power to you, I hope that you get it the way that you want.  I'm waiting on the 22" models to arive before Im willing to put out that kind of cash. Big Smiley Grin Laughing

Oh but I think they will be nicer looking in black, the silver IMO is dated looking.

eh, what's a bit of cash when you're finishing your basement! Big Smiley Grin Laughing

I know, I know...a very VERY price lappy...Now that price was w/ BluRay, which i will NOT be getting, so that takes $600 off right from the start!  Yep, 5,000 is much more palatable!

Well, now I just wait!

Do you really like the black more?   I think since the one I have is black, I like the silver more....

Pat if there is 6 gigs of RAM , you'll need XP 64bit  or  Vista 64bit to make use of that much RAM  Looking around cautiously

XP 32bit and Vista 32bit can make use of max 4GB.

I have Vista 32bit and 4GB of RAM.
Of that is 3.25 GB available to Vista, The rest 768MB is reserved for my graphics card.

If you Install the vanilla 32bit XP with that configuration, Windows will report 3GB or lower Memory.
It doesn't matter if you have 128GB RAM  Crying

I'm not trying to lower your great Mood over buying a new computer!!
This is just some hard facts information  wink

Anyway the computer looks great  Happy Dance

If this lappy comes with Vista 64bit installed --- Remember that many games esp. older games will not
run under Vista 64bit.
That's the reason I installed Vista 32bit --- although I have Vista 64bit version too....

What games work and don't work ?
Well there's some lists about this on several places. But these lists are very incomplete....

Ok that's great. Not so funny to pay for memory you can't use  Looking around cautiously

It's best to solve problems before they arise  Happy Dance
