hello all:

can some please make a mod for light rail trains  because you never see the subway train at all you just hear it
I think there must be a way to show how much money you are making with buses in your city.  if some can try to make a mod for new transportation types.

Hello and Welcome  Oops.. Sorry this thread seems to have been missed AVA.  Sometimes a big hit of replies pushes new topics down the active posting list quickly and are missed.

Good idea for more transportation.. though I'm not sure what actual limits of the current Modding abilities are..all of us who Mod are finding that out now.  So if it is possible it will be something a lot of player would like to see too.

My concern on a major Mod task such this (from my previous experiences).. that a game develop kit may be required to create things like this.. that's usually called SDK kit.. and cooperation from the Devs to allow some necessary files to be accessed so the Mods can be produced.  That's my personal assessment..it's early in the modding process .. let's see where it takes us.   Smiley Blink

AVALONIA that would be sooo cool! I would just love to see train stations and rail tracks in my cities!!

But I think it will be a loooong time if ever - unless EA/Tilltled does it first.

If I understand it all correctly - there are basically 3 kinds of mods (simplified here)

1. Recolor(s) - original designs that are just exactly the same but with new colors added - creating an option for an existing creation (Gray stone cottage now in blue stone - green tree now in orange for fall -  kind of thing)

2. New Mod - New or changed existing creations = the original design is used as a "base" for the new mod - Take a bridge - it startes out as a flat road surface with side railings - someone takes that "base" and adds more to it to create a Covered Bridge or Skyscraper type look.

3. Animated - this is the hardest - to create a NEW item for the game new animations need to be added. So with a train - first a new mod needs to be created for the train itself. Then a new mod for the tracks. Then animation needs to be added for the train to 'move' on the tracks.

This is possible = Modders for Sim2 do it - but there are only a few and they are VERY TALENTED!!

I can recolor and do it for Sims2 - creating new flooring, furnishing, appliance etc TEXTURES only.

SOMEONE please add to or change what I have said above to correct me  wink

This game is SOOOO NEW that it will (probably) take some time before modders really get going. I am sure we will see new items/ new colors etc - **fingers crossed**

I'm sorry but I really don't believe that anybody will be able to add any form of transportation.  I do believe that we will be able to reskin (recolor) some of the vehicles perhaps but I don't believe it's possible to make a light rail or a train etc.

As it is now TM is saying that they are looking into possible ways of allowing the gamer to create "NEW" buildings, as they don't have anything in place which is absurd in my opinion.  The one thing that could keep the game going for a long long time and they didn't even have a plan or tool ready when the game was launched so that people could create "NEW"  buildings.  Instead at the moment we are severely limited to recoloring and changing stats on the buildings which is NOT modding to the "upteenth degree" in my opinion.  In fact I don't even consider it close to that.

Modding is also broken at the moment and distributing some mods don't work because there is a flaw in the modding system that TM have reported they are looking into.

I honestly don't expect many mods for this game to be released simply because the real hardcore SC modders have not embraced this game.  I do believe that we will be seeing plenty of texture mods and reskins of buildings but nothing earth shattering.  Sorry, tha'ts what I see currently with the limitations of not having the tools necessary from TM to do any real modding outside of recoloring and adding textures or changing building stats (which is broken too).

No, I believe that we will see the following types of mods:
1. Recolors of existing items
2. Reskinning of existing models
3. Building stats changes (like adding more power to a windfarm or like the maintenance mod that TM did)
4. Textures, textures and more textures.
5. Environmental textures such as trees possibly.
