Here is my warm brown brick paintable terrain tiles.  You can find this in the game where the paintbrush icon is, it will list in that window.

There may be a bug where the first time you play a game with this mod installed the name of "Brown Brick" does not show up in the game, but I've found on subsequent games the name appears as it should.  This does NOT damage anything and you can still see the preview of the brown bricks as you can for the other tiles like asphalt, and grass etc so you can still choose it like you can any other paintable terrain tile.

CB THAT IS AWESOME!  The absolute perfect addition...I mean, the asphalt just doesn't fit w/ some cities!

Worked like a charm..like you said, the first time the words 'Brown Brick' did not show up...but I shut the game down, restarted it and BAMMO! There it is, in alphabetical order just like it should be...

This is SUPERB!

Look, YOU I trust...if you come up w/ anything else that you feel is safe and ready to roll, by all means, let me know because I'll download whatever content you come up with!

BTW...where does one learn to mod for this game???   I might be tempted to take a shot at it!!

I've been sneaking myself over to the TM forum and reading what they have to say about it.  Then just sort of trial and error.  I've got my stopsigns mod too that Im going to eventually upload and all that it does is put the words "STOP" on the actual stop signs instead of the simmish verbage but in my opinion it adds a nice little touch to the cities.

What the heck am I doing wrong???

I have tried saving and opening this and neither one works - I get a pop-up message "This is not an EA file do you still want to open" (words to that effect) and when I click YES it goes away.....gone.....nada.....

If you got asked to install it and you click  yes the mod file will disappear when it installs, this is normal.
I usually make a copy and keep the original as backup and paste the copy to desktop and install from there. 
You can also copy the file and place it directly into the "import" folder where the game will "unzip it". 
 Some of the Official mods  unzip normally like an exe when you double click on them and they will not disappear, which is great as you don't need to redownload it if you forget to make a backup.
