Smiley Blink Well I have a boat load of every flavor of town I can think of (over 20 saved small burgs)..all under 6K population.. it's certainly a pretty game to play, but it only takes me a few hours to get a small town up to this population limiting situation.

I have several towns I would like to see become massive CITIES..some towering skyscrapers..massive density, and subways systems that actually relieve the surface traffic...and all that goes with that type of management.

I like the game and anticipate so much...but even amongst all the pretty graphics and excellent detail.. this population limitation is wearing me down.  I hate abusing my system attempting to pushing the population up beyond way the game can handle..and still be stable.  Sticking Tongue Out

This isn't a gripe thread... maybe my expectations are exceeding what was intended.   Ssssh..... Don't tell anybody

It's SimCity 4 Upside down then  Laughing

No zoning, just another type of input  Questioning

Anyway I can "hear" the prices are falling, so I wait with this title for a little while.

I remember when I first played Zeus, my machine could only handle about 2000 population, then I got a new PC, and whammo, the sky's the limit for the pop, now I realise that Zeus is a 2D game, but what a joy it was to be able to make massive cities without worrying about lag and stutter.
I actually got up to 12000 in SimCity: Societies before my machine started to lag a little. I was very surprised as I thought I'd only be able to get to about 2000. Happy Dance
Glad you're enjoying the game Max. Agreed Happy

It seems to me that what is needed is to edit all of the buildings that are locked away as rewards so that they are available from the start, in this way I can start by placing a skyscraper in the beginning of the game so as to create my downtown metropolis.

As it is now I almost always run out of space on the map before some of the larger city type buildings are opened up to me.

I like the game so don't get me wrong but it's so far removed from SimCity 4 with it's zoning and how the buildings evolve on their own, the buildings are very static in SimCity: Societies which to me should then be that they are all available from the start so that we can place the skyscrapers etc from the get go.

One of the things you can do is to preplan a bit...you can deal w/ some unhappy sims early on as you create the space near city center where you want your skyscrapers so that when all the bigger buildings become available, you have room to place them...it gets a bit difficult but if you ride out the storm of unhappy campers, you can toe the line and get to the point where the bigger stuff becomes available and you can, indeed, create the centrally located area of skyscrapers!

later,

I do like the game but I do miss watching building evolve like in SimCity 4.  That would be a nice little bonus.  I am surprised price is coming down so soon.  I wonder how the sales are going with so much griping on the net.  The game keeping crashing on me so I hope they release another patch.  I think I am going to load up SimCity 4 for old times sake  Laughing

Hello and Welcome Thanks everyone for all the comments..much appreciated.  Big Smiley Grin Laughing

@ pat!!.. yes I've preplanned for the future unlocked buildings..put up with the emotional fallout (hey, remember I beta'd CotN  Smiley Blink ) ..anyroad. I have towns to midsized cities 5-to 30K and somehow as the building density increases..which you match with population to absorb.. the city builder "balancing act" my games tend to go south (as I know continuing will be futile).  I play at my Samsung's native res.. or use the best performance of my regular game PC, and the settings are sub par by yours and CB's standards for sure..as I physically can't appreciate picture perfect detail anyway.

On my new PC I've never crashed..only because I know when this system is struggling and save and bail before there's a lockup.  I tie these issues to how the game manages it's workload.. since I haven't had any graphical anomalies or any indication of GPU or CPU overheating..it certainly indicates the there's must be something overwhelming the given system resources during the game.  Maybe if there's major hits with certain building density where the potential exceeds the current available system resources become threatened... the OS whether XP or Vista will "error" the call.  Other than wait and see if there's a core application programming trigger that places these speculations in motion..time will tell.  Just for the record..I've played fast and furious..and slow and methodical..doesn't seemed to matter.. and I've just referred to my numerous towns by a population notation out of CBing habit.

I've enjoyed playing and creating these little towns..and figure that all will be fixed at some point.  If I had any negativity..it would be playing ...and some point start holding my breath that ...the game decides...OK..your done.   wink ..go make another one.

hehe Mona.. now now...regression can only make the comparison more critical..but I well know how older games re-inspired the desire to play... have fun. Laughing

I believe there is a memory leak in the game now.  I created a city and only got to a population of about 3700 or so and played for about an hour and half and had to use task manager to quit the game.  But in task manager the game was consuming 1.3GB of memory.  When I quit the game and restarted it, I loaded up the last save which was done moments before killing the game and it only consumed 503k of memory indicating to me that there is a memory leak in the game which causes it to go wonky.
