I've discovered that we can build pedestrian only streets, using the tiles in the decoration's menu, and the Sims will use them.   We can give a little European feel to our city's.

Here are two shots, showing what i mean.

Edit:

We can even create our own little shopping plaza.

Outstanding shots Zorba!  I have been using those concrete tiles for public parks, etc....a nice touch.  I love the look of your pics..

HOW and WHERE did you get those coblestone type tiles???? Those are GREAT!

Thanks for your kind words.

Here's a shot of a new city i've started combining streets and pedestrian alley

As for your question, it's part of a mod that i've found on the net.  I still have the original file on my drive but i don't know if i can post it here.  Anyway, i've found it at Simtropolis. com, in the SimCity: Societies forum in a post by a guy name THATGUY or something like that.  Big Smiley Grin Laughing

Definitely one of my favorite concepts of the game.    The possibilities become endless with all of the texturing possibilities.     Smiley Blink

I'm trying to stay away from Simtropolis as much as possible when it comes to this game, though.   As you can see in the STEX download comment thread there are a lot of people angry that he put the mod on there - one even giving him a thumbs down rating for it  Looking around cautiously - all because they don't like the game.

There is a ground texture mod on the simcity.com exchange that offers about 6 or 8 different textures that we can pain just like the concrete or asphalt.  They add a lot of diversity to the grounds now that every home doesn't have to have asphalt or concrete walkways.  Now they can have a psuedo asphalt driveway and a brick walkway.  I can hardly wait until more stuff comes out by talented individuals.

Poetic!  Welcome to the board!  That's just nuts folks ripping on a person because they happen to like a game.....

Hopefully the mod will stay put!  Has anyone tried it and experienced any strangness??

Okay, I've now tried the additional terrain pack from the simtropolis website and it doesn't seem to produce any adverse effects to the game, however...  I think that the scale of most of the items as well as the textures themselves just arn't right.  Many of the brick textures are just massive.

When creating these textures I think the modders need to look at what exists in the game for such things as the bricks and match the new textures to the scale that is already in the game.

There is one brick texture that comes with that mod (the traditional red bricks) that looks okay in the game, but the rest of them are way too large.  It also has some bizarre textures that I'd never use myself such as brushed aluminum, canyon rock, Mars etc All of which again are off scale but just too bizarre of a texture for my tastes.  Im now uninstalling them because there are so many of them that I won't use that it's not worth the extra scroll time in the terrain builing menu to have them there.

If I can find my Paintshop disk, I may have a go at trying to create some simple textures in the right scale (or at least what I think is the right scale).  But it doesn't hurt to download the texture pack and give it a go and see if it looks appropriate in your game.

I feel that the one available on the simcity.com exchange: http://simcitysocieties.ea.com/exchange/mod/detail.php?assetID=19 (you need to be logged in over there I believe) is more to scale and though it has fewer new textures, they look more appropriate in my opinion.

I've attached a screenshot of some of the tiles that are included in "that_guys" texture pack for your enjoyment and these are the ones that I feel are not scaled properly with the game, as you can see in some of them the stones are huge..

Can someone lead me to the Modding instructions?

I mod for The Sims2 all the time - walls, floors and furnishings (I "recolor" but do NOT create new designs) - so if I can find the correct files I should be able to make all kinds of "flooring" from textures I already have. Should is the operative word in that sentance  Sticking Tongue Out
