Well, it happened!!!  My streets changed!

I've been working on a new city, Dimler's Bay.  I'm going 95% romantic (there are just some normal buildings you need like police station, etc.).

And after a few hours!!! BINGO!  There IS evolution!  My first real glimpse, the streets!

What will follow will be a couple posts w/ screens and the final ones will show a before/after w/ the streets!

pat!

more!

The last two will show the same stretch of street (albeit from a slightly different angle) with the original roads and the 'evolved' one that fits my Romantic theme!  Note that the street lights changed, too!

I'm not sure what else 'changed' i'll keep looking city wide!

First off, nice screenies Pat!

Yeah I know that the streets and lamposts change to theme with the majority of the buildings, but I was more wondering if the buildings actually change or evolve but it doesnt appear to do so, the buildings stay static but the streets and lamp posts change to theme with whatever majority of building set you are using.  Yeah, it gives it a different look I'll agree, I only wish they would have evolved the buildings too, like a trailer park gets upped to an apartment building etc.

Again, nice screenshots.

I keep getting stuck.  I start one theme then find out that I don't like the overall look of it and start over with another theme.  Since theres quite a few themes Im sure I'll find one that really appeals to me not only in the beginning but later on as well.

CB, thanks!

Something changes, though, it must if you follow the same theme enough because we see all those screenies w/ the haunted cities, smog, etc...unless it's everything 'environmental' that changes...you're right, I wish the buildings evolved, maybe not necessarily in stature from say trailer park to cottage, but from nice trailer to dirty one or nice trailer to 'wonderous' trailer...you know, something that doesn't change the societal values of each building but the look...

Pad, a fairly large number of the buildings do change textures if you change from one profile to another (i. e.  they go from dingy to normal to bright if you go from an industrial to a happy city).   Also there are cultural props which change as your city evolves, like flowers/flower pots, balloons, security cameras, benches, radio antennae, certain cars, etc.   They aren't on every building--they're kind of meant to be subtle.   Although i suppose there is such a thing as too subtle  :)

Sorry if this sounds ignorant, but how does one change profiles from say, industrial to happy city?  I must be missing a huge part of the game maybe because I build by choosing my theme like industrial and I continue to buld in that theme.  So how does one change over to happy from there?  Do you mean, if I stop building anymore industrial and start building all new happy land themed objects then it will switch over all the buildings to the happyland buildings looks?

Oh and thanks for dropping in from TM, it's always nice to see someone from the developers corner to pop in once in a blue moon.  I know all the "regulars" around here will certainly appreciate it.

Dani!  Thanks for stopping by!

I knew there just had to be more subtle changes...I've only played for all-told about 5 hours so I'm just now learning the game but I'm going to keep my eyes open for sublte things!

Thanks a lot for the insight, it gives us something to look/work for!

CB..I'm not sure of the answer to that...I mean i just passed 2,000 population while having a city nearly 95% Romantic before my first 'jump' to romantic/old world style roads.  I'm not sure what the triggers are...I do know that certain buildings/things have a radial affect (not just city wide) on buildings around them so maybe its a congleratation of data that you finally trip a trigger!

On one hand it'd be nice to know where you're at and what you're working towards, but on the other hand, the surprise is quite fun!!!

Did all the roads and lamps in your city change over at one time or are there still bits and pieces left over of the standard roads and lamps?

All at once, which leads me to believe there's a city wide algorythm at work here....and i think there are subtleties to it because certain buildings ONLY have an effect in certain radii...but the overall appearance is dictated, I believe, by a city-wide societal flow...

Three more from Dimler's Bay!

An extended street shot with the Tilted Mill WinMill in the foreground...

My absolute favorite spot in my city...don't know why, it's so damn neat!

Yes, a Hot Air Balloon!
