If you don't want to connect to the net each time you start up SimCity: Societies, make  a shortcut and add this     -theLlamaSaysGO   to the target line. Target line is found  by right clicking your shortcut then go properties/shortcut tab

eg, this is mine:
"E:\Electronic Arts\SimCity™ Societies\SimCitySocieties.exe" -theLlamaSaysGO

Does one have to connect to the net to actually play the game?

All it does is to bypass the launcher, but if you don't use the launcher then you don't see when they have added new content that they list in the launcher, so you just need to keep up on the latest news at one of the websites for the game.

Plus, If you leave your disc in the dvd tray most of the time (as I do) I not only have the shortcut icon with the added piece to the target line to bypass the connection, but also the one that is defaulted on the desktop from the install I use to keep up on the latest news at EA as that one does not have the added bit.
I find if I use the "default icon" I get tempted to go to the site too much and then I browse the forums and then other forums and then.......valuable gaming time is lost   Crying     Laughing

CB, Pat thank you.  I was getting a bit concerned there.  I will be ordering it this week.  And to think I wasn't going to, wanted a history based sim.  But seeing Pat's Candy Land, World, Town I knew I had to have it.  It looks and from what all of you say like a fun game.

Thanks again for all the hints, tips and information.
