The above link will take you to eurogamers review of SimCity: Societies.  I really hate to say it, but in all honesty, they hit it right on the nose with this review.

If you're thinking about getting the game but are sitting on the fence wondering if you will like it or not, then I suggest a read of their review.  While I don't personally think of SimCity: Societies as a total and complete flop or even a waste of money, I do agree with about 90% of what eurogamer has written in their review of the game.

Here is a quick excerpt of what you will find in their review:
Quote
And it's here that the first of several flaws in the core game design become apparent. The tutorial handily tells you that your power stations don't need to touch or connect to the buildings they supply. It's true. You can plonk a nuclear plant on the other side of the map, and the electricity magically flows to your buildings regardless. The tutorial also encourages you to think of the "social energies" in the same way as electricity - a resource that every building requires to operate. Can you see where this is leading? That's right. You can boost your supply of any energy simply by scrolling to a distant corner and slapping a bunch of decorations down. Build five public murals in the middle of nowhere, miles from your city, and you can get 40 creativity points despite the fact that none of your citizens can actually see them.

Feel free to discuss the review.

Eurogamer scored SimCity: Societies 5/10 but gave City Life 8/10  which do you think is the better of the two?

I now look forward to seeing what Montecristo Games can do with City Life 2 which with regards to what little info has been released about that looks like it might have some more depth to it than does SimCity: Societies so far.  Perhaps they can patch SimCity: Societies up and alter some core game fundamentals but Im not betting on that happening.  Yeah, I'll continue to tinker with it, but with no scenarios offering any goals it's really all just one big sandbox to which I can't even make my own goals to work for.

I would imagine it hurts the game sales a lot in Europe.  I'd love to be able to disagree with it, but for the most part it really is spot on.  Never the less Im playing the game and looking for that rough gem in the coal mine and desiring to build an ubar city now.  I put my smallsville on hold once it became more of a mediumsville Laughing
