Okay, I'm officially itching to get this thing...but good lord I hope my machine can handle it!

C'mon little Alien, you can do it!

http://simcity.ea.com/screenshots.php

And this little quote from the Gamespot preview...MODABLE TO THE X DEGREE!

"Speaking of control, SimCity Societies will be extensively mod-able. All of the game data is stored as XML files so anyone can easily go in there and tweak the properties of individual buildings. Presumably it'll also be easy to swap in new building models -- EA is planning to create an exchange site similar to what's available for The Sims. Given the popularity of downloading Sims content -- even for casual players -- this should be a big part of the game's appeal."

WOW  Happy Dance  Happy Dance

Those are some screenies. I'm itching too, bad  Laughing

I'm hoping that Tilted Mill has programmed it so it doesn't require a state of the art comp to run  it.
CotN ran real well on my old comp.  Agreed Happy

I agree Taz, my only concern is LAG!  Caesar IV ran pretty well on my alien but I had to really tweak all the options until I found the correct combo to run smoothly.  And I never was able to utilize shadows.....

Thanks for posting those screenies Pat, It still looks like a Tycoon CityNY clone to me though, I really really hope it isn't, but I won't be buying it until I get a demo (or people here rave about it, IMO the best review a game can have)  Big Smiley Grin Laughing

Caesar IV was a terrible resource pig.  I remember going out and buying a $300.00 video card to see if it would run any better and I got an increase (from memory) of about 5 fps.  I would anticipate SimCity: Societies to be more of the same.

If it's really moddable to the xdegree than it's probably worth picking up, but I have to know if the modding is limited to the xml files or if they are using granny 3D like in many other games (wasn't Caesar IV using granny too?) which means the buildings might be reskinnable but not really moddable without a granny software.

Just a few short days away now and we'll know which route they went with.

Not completely sure but the description seems to hint at the modding be mostly via xml files...but you never know....I'm too dumb to mod anyway, other than using editors!  I'm afraid I'd screw something up!

Yes, I think that will be the major brunt force of the moddability of the game (the xml files to change building stats etc), which is fine if thats all that people want to do with it.

Was there a mention of a landscape editor?  Not that I would expect the dev or pub's to officially support it or anything like that.

you know, i don't think so but remember, both Children of the Nile and Caesar 4 had them, so at least TM has a history of providing them.....we'll see!

 Hello and Welcome

Thanks for the link Pat11.  Such nice screenshots.   Happy Dance
I wonder if it will be possible to have the cars driving on the left not right as us folk downunder are the opposite. With SimCity 4 just needed to change the folder english to UKEnglish.

The Haunted city in the video clip is great  ..love the idea  Thumbs Up...I think I may be starting the hear the ching ching of the ole coins in my purse  Laughing
