If you get the guild 2 try to get the pirates of the high seas addon pack.  For me it was a good addon.  But then again with teh "modpack" that should be out shortly made by other users, you may find that the pirates addon might not be necessary at all, but I liked it.

Im just about to run out to go pick up settlers 6 in a few moments.

Welcome!

You'll find that the people here are most kind. We're an older group, so there's no petty fighting here. We tease a little, but it doesn't get outta hand.

There's a forum about Settlers Rise of an Empire. Pad has told us a little about the retail. Go down there and check it out. The game is sounding better an better, and I liked the demo right off. Go see those boards for some pretty good info.

Games you might consider are

Anno 1701  -- There's a few fans here of this. There's a demo for it too.
Settlers: Rise of an Empire is just now taking off. This might be a good bet for you.
I like Trainz 2006, but its more of a sim than a game. Can be daunting too, 'cause there's lotsa assets to wade through. Is sorta a city builder -- like, on steroids, because of all the assets.
Railroad Tycoon 3  is also sort of a city builder. I have a lotta fun with it.
Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 has me totally obsessed right now. Again, it's a city builder of sorts, but it doesn't meet all the criteria.

By your photo, I assume you're in Florida. Is that correct? Where are you living? Three of us here are in Oregon (me, Otaz, and MaxBeta). CB lives in Palm Springs, CA. Rhiannon is in NZ, and Sandra is in England.  United is from Sweden. I dunno where Exyll and Catmajik are from. At any rate, we get along here because we're adults. I think you'lll find it refreshing not to have to put up with any childishness... erm.. well, we get silly childish, but not competitive and rude.

So... welcome aboard! But be aware that we are a bit crazy too. If that rubs off on you, we take no responsibility.  Big Smiley Grin Laughing

ah HAAAA!  Thought you were on the fence on this one CB? Smiley Blink
I dont know why I bother ordering from services when there is a GameStop like 4 blocks from my job
(I didnt think many would be buying it here so I could wait the extra 3 days for delivery)
Now Im tempted to buy a copy after work. Well I look forward to the reviews (more importantly the retail features vs the stuff we've been seeing in the demo)
Like:
Thieves
Firebreathers/Tallmen/Circus dudes
The final tricks your castle can do when it's fully upgraded
and stuff

Awwww.... he's a pushover! Just put a new game in front of him and he'll protest, but end up buying it! The next thing you know, we'll be seeing him on Dr Phil's show, in an espisode called 'Computer games junkies -- And you thought drug addiction was bad!'  Big Smiley Grin Laughing

Just kiddin. I'm just jealous. I'd like to go get it too, but I've already spent my allowance this month. Sigh!

I doubt that you'll be disapointed with it. There's a whole lotta goodies in this. FIrst there's sandbox mode where you can play and not have to worry about money. Then there's the scenarios, and a scenario editor too. The peeps (you gotta love 'em) have a lot of animations. I the Platinum edition, you get the Soaked! and Wild! expansion packs. The peeps swim and dive, walk, run, jump, barf, change facial expressions, and a wealth of ther things too. In the Wild edition, the animals are stunningly beautiful. They are superb!

In scenario mode, this is about as good as it gets. There's variables that affect your income. Nothing is linear. There is no real formula to follow. You're at odds with weather (it rains) and the time of year. Rides break down and cost you money. People get unhappy for various reasons, and you need to keep track of them. This is a very complex model.

You get to

a. Attract customers
b. Keep them happy
c. Manage an economy
d. Plan so that traffic flow keeps people moving to various parts of your park
e. DESIGN your own coasters! Now, this is a challenge all in itself
f. Ride all the rides.
g. See the park through the eyes of a peep, with a cheat, and actually walk around the park.

Entertainment wise, I've never seen a better game. The peeps and animations are incredibly varied and convincing, if not cute as a bunny! There's a lot of easter eggs too, some in the form of cheats. These are a real hoot! THere's a wealth of decorations too, and many are animated. There's a wealthj of trees and shrubbery. There's lots of food variety and souvenir/good shacks for selling stuff. This game has more to offer than two other city builders combined!

The Platinum edition is as stable as they come. I've not hiccupped once! You should defrag your disk though, especially if you're gonna make movies. Keep it defragged, and you'll never see it crash.

I know I go on about this way too much, but really... it is the best city builder I've ever seen. There's more going on in this than any other game I've seen, and even more than I ever expected. It's a winner! Truly, it's a remarkable game that sets high standards. One caveat though -- the interface is a bit clumsy. They coulda streamlined this a lot more. But that's easily overlooked due to the various challenges, and the immense amount of entertainment value!

Don't stop at Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 only though. Get the platinum edition, whcih has the expansions. It's just plain amazing! I'm still dumbfounded by it. Is awesome!
