How many of these starforce protected games do you own, and how many of them do you have installed?

I own
  • Age of Pirates
  • X3 Reunion (starforce removed in patch 2.0.0.1),
  • Wildlife Park
  • Super Power 2
  • Singles 2 flirt up your life (I have the direct2drive version, no starforce in it)

I have [0] of them installed right now. I don't have them installed, not because they have starforce but rather because I've long since been done playing with them.

This is a list of games that use Starforce for copy protection along with which region the copy protection is used in and the version used. If the space is blank, there is no information on that region's version, but be wary. The publisher's contact info for the ones that use Starforce is also linked so you may tell them you disagree with their usage of Starforce. Demos that use Starforce will most likely use Starforce for the full release. Demos are protected because it prevents people from using an unprotected demo to crack the protected full version.

Hello and Welcome  Zero (0) for me.

I beta'd the Cossacks and Am Conq Series..but no SF on any of my game discs for those...just the retail copies I guess.

ALL the other games..save a few terribly buggy ones??  Looking around cautiously  I just never had that much interest in playing I guess.   Sticking Tongue Out

I have none of them. I played Cossacks for a little bit, but it was just plain stupid, so I gave up on it very quickly. Now when I see a title from CDV, I always think twice, and I've always passed on it.

I woulda and coulda enjoyed Medieval Lords, but it is terribly broken. I certainly like the way it made famrs (crop fields), and would like to see that approach taken in other titles, but it seems the whole gaming world thinks farms are always the same size and always flat, just like the world is, and the sun travels around the earth too, so flat, same size farms are best 'cause I wouldn't want the sun to run into their corners.

And just what the hell is this -- Heroes of Annihilated Empires? How can they be heros if their empire is annihilated? Huh? Like... this is an oxymoron! It should be titled Martyrs of Annhilated Empires.

No. I have a handful of respected titles, and I get my money's worth outta them. The titles I have at present are

CivCity: Rome
CotN
Unreal Tournament 2004
Rise of Nations
Age of Empires III + The Conquerors
Sid Meier's Civ IV
Trainz 2006
Anno 1503 (boy! this is one cumbersome nightmare)
Glory of the Roman Empire
Medieval Total War I (I need to take a second look at this one)
Railroad Tycoon 3
Stronghold Crusaders
Quake III + Q3 Arena
Command and Conquer: Generals + Zero Hour

All other titles I've ever bought have been sold or trashed if they're not sellable. Among those are World of Warcrap, Sid Meier's Pirates, Dark ages of Camelot, Medieval Lords, Starcrap, and.... erm.. I forget. Oops! Yeah, the very first game that really got me hooked (and I wish they'd remake this, streamlined with production queues and in 3d, Warcraft II -- I loved the flying dragons and the ability to turn people into sheep!  Big Smiley Grin Laughing) And I played Half-Life for about 2 years but have now sworn off all Valve titles forever! Oops again. I really liked Total Annihilation for a while, but it's now very dated, and very much a click-fest.

About copy protection -- it's never been an issue. I save my games in their entirety, and keep them in their boxes with all the documentation (and some downloaded, printed docs). Game patches are kept in a separate place, burned on CD, so that I'll never lose them if the company stops posting 'em. I don't copy my games. I treat the originals with respect, and have them well organized.

I have quit playing online, mainly because I grew tired of dealing with 13 year olds. I play only Single Player now, and that's good enough for me.

New titles coming soon to my shelves are Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, and Settlers: Rise of an Empire. I'm looking forward to both, but am more excited about Settlers than RCT3. I doubt that any other titles will make it to my shelves this year. I have plenty to keep me entertained, and most of the above keep me coming back to them. Perhaps the one I come back to most often is Stronghold Crusaders -- is fun, a no brainer, but challenging enough to keep me interested for a couple hours at a time.

Oh! I'm considering getting Dress Up Barbie. This looks like it might offer up hours of strategic complexities, great sound, and superb visuals!  Big Smiley Grin Laughing

Hi Lengo

If you can acquire a copy of 1701 A.D. I think you will really like it. Look at all the raves elsewhere in the forum.  Agreed Happy

I'm way past 13, so maybe we could play some online games.   Smiley Blink
If not 1701 then maybe S6 when it is released.

No thanks. I don't play online. Is more hassle than it's worth. I just don't do it.

As far as 1701, I've seen the graphics. I've played 1502. If 1701 is as troublesome as 1502, no thanks. 1602 allows automatic trade routes, but you gotta set 'em up in port! What a freakin' pain! Also, 1502 upgrades it's buildings and makes them unrecognizable. What used to look like a mill, doesn't even look close to it after it upgrades. This made finding my buildings too tough. 1502 was a nightmare to play. I expect 1701 to be similar. I'm not innerested. I'm pretty sure that Settlers: Rise of an Empire is gonna be what I want. And hey! Today I'm back into Trainz. Took me 3 weeks to get the incentive, but now I'm all hot to trot again. Litterally 'trot'.  I got horses!  Big Smiley Grin Laughing

Smiley Blink Game history has proved that player's either Loved or Hated the Anno series.. I agree 1503 was a toughie to get a handle on... strange as it may seem they had some of the best of the best in graphic artists..by industry standards at least.  Like all companies that are successful..eventually all their inner workforce become "watered-down" and sold to the highest bidder.. or so it seems.   Laughing

My personal assessment..Settlers is a much lesser game intuitive wise than 1701.. trade is strictly manual..vs automatic in 1701.  You can control the Type of Housing style through the upgrade cycle in 1701.. whereas Settlers is nicely done..but you get what has been given..no choosing styles on any of them.

This isn't a criticism..I'll probably play Settlers..just to be able to discuss the gameplay and other unique points of the title.   Big Smiley Grin Laughing

I really didn't care a whole lot for the other two Anno games at all.  But 1701 is quite the appealing game in my opinion.  I really don't find it to be troublesome at all.  There really isn't any one aspect that I can immediately put my finger on that causes me a great amount of grief like the previous two games did.

To me, there is no comparison between Settlers 6 and Anno 1701.  1701 offers almost infinte replayability and with the next xpack and an editor, it should be able to last as long as we still want to look at the lil' peeps wandering around their islands.  Settlers 6 n the other hand based only on the previews that I've read about it, is not going to have that replayability.  There is no AI beyond prescripted scenarios where as 1701 has got AI and you can choose whether you want the AI in your game or not.

Okay okay okay!  I'm getting the download as I write this.

Gamespot doesn't cover this very well. They dont even tell you there's a demo. Anno's site's movies don't play either. So I went to YouTube and saw a couple videos. It looks pretty good. But, are hemp farms still available? Can I grow Ganja?  Big Smiley Grin Laughing

I already got my hands full with Trainz. More than full! They're overflowing. I've been fixing locos, retexturing carriage, and making narrow gauge cars so they can haul freight. Is a whole lotta work, lemme tell ya!

ANd I have budgeted to buy Settlers VI. I'm not gonna buy two games. I can't afford to.

At any rate, I like the idea of pirates. The graphics look pretty good too, but I dunno about volcanoes and typhoons. I don't wanna do all that work and have it wrecked by Hurricane Max or Typhoon Taz! No thank you. No thank you very much!!  Agreed Happy

I think you're underestimating Settlers 6, CB.  Time will tell though. I hope it plays well. I'm certainly chomping on the bit for it. It's complicated enough to keep me interested. I was pretty hooked on just the demo, so I'm wanting the retail pretty badly. In the meantime, though, I'm building the Erie Canal. See the Trainz Strainz thread for more info (or hand over your Ganja, ya landlubbers!)  Big Smiley Grin Laughing
