I was at frys yesterday on my way home from Los Angeles and found a game named Loki.  It's another hack and slash 3D RPG game.  I didn't buy it because I want to try the demo first and see if it's got that certain diablo 2 like quality before I plunge $50 down on it.

You can download the demo at www.loki-game.com It's about a 1GB download, I just finished DLing it a couple hours ago but havn't yet tried it.  I hope it's good.

Here is some marketing verbage for it:

Loki, the Legendary Hack 'n' Slash !  (Don't you just love it!  Two Worlds was the Epic RPG and Loki is the Legendary HnS RPG)

Loki is a hack n slash (action/RPG) developed by the French Game studio Cyanide and is the studio’s most ambitious project to date. However, it is not their first incursion into a fantasy world as their subtle blend of humour and haemoglobin in Chaos League met with popular success.

A fantasy voyage through the great mythologies, Loki allows the player to take on the role of one of the 4 heroes of the game, each drawn from a different mythology: a mighty Norse fighter, a fierce Greek warrior, a powerful Egyptian magician or an Aztec shaman who masters the secrets of the spirit world.

Whatever hero the player adopts, he must come to the aid of the gods he worships. He will come to realise that behind the chaos that is threatening his world lies Seth, the Egyptian god of darkness and evil, who has returned from the kingdom of the dead.

The hero must therefore undertake an epic journey across the various epochs and myths. He will fight a multitude of monsters of all shapes and sizes, and even overthrow a few gods, on his way to preventing Seth establish his wicked reign.

Big Smiley Grin Laughing  Ummm Thanks CB... I don't know where I could possibly find time to get hooked into another EPIC journey..  TW has already cooked my playing time majorly this week.. I might DL the demo for some future "lag" time.

I appreciate the heads up...but weary and worn presently.  I would like to hear your personal assessment...comparing Loki to TW..that would be great.    Smiley Blink

Okay, Im actually kind of tempted to remove this thread alltogether in hopes that nobody is ever tempted to buy the game.

I played for as long as i could stand it and had to quit.

The game is 3D but not 3D like Two worlds is 3D.  Your character is controlled by chasing your mouse like your diablo II character did which was fine back in the day of D2 but today well, that's just a bit archaic.

If you thought the voice overs were bad in Two Worlds, well.... The voice overs in this one make the voice overs in 2W seem to be academy award nominees.  It sounds like perhaps they had 2 or 3 people do the voice overs and you can hear which person it is, and it's rather like listening to your grandfather read you a bedtime story and change his voice for each character in the book.  It's just really really bad.

The graphics are primitive in my opinion and don't even come close to the quality of Two Worlds environment.

Theres not too much I can really say about it because it was honestly brutally painful to even play the demo and just makes me very very thankful that I didn't buy the two copies that were on the shelf yesterday.

I'll go so far as to say that it's not even worth your time to download the demo, that's how bad it is.  But if you're a glutton for punishment then by all means give it a whirl, but as for me, everybody on this forum could all stand up and cheer and scream at the top of their lungs how great Loki is, and I still wouldn't go buy it.  And that's saying a lot in my opinion.

rofl!!! hilarious

CB keep on the lookout, I'm gettin the itch for something new as well.'
I saw the demo for Loki but when I saw the whole 'choose from one of 4 ..." I knew this wasnt for me. Descriptions like that usually break down to 'medium strong guy, bigger stronger guy, medium sexy woman, skinny sexy woman' thus limiting, well, everything in gameplay to 1/4 of the games potential.

But keep on searchin CB!  Im itchin for a new challenge and I dont care the genre
I've been checking my favorite haunt (fileplanet) but they've seem to go the way of FPSs and if there is room they'll toss in an RTS or maybe an RPG

One word about Loki !

Read the forum at  http://www.loki-game.com

Almost everybody in the forum seems to agree that even after several patches, the game have serious issues...

Most feel cheated, and think that Loki is still in Beta status  Crying

Strange bugs like it's impossible to distribute skill points, and many broken/dead quests...

Latest patch I know of is ver 1.0.6.0 , was reported that this patch have more bugs then 1.0.5.0

And the devs had moved on to make some other online game ......

Here is an interesting read about Loki: http://www.loki-fr.com/test-loki-en.html

Exyll, if you've not yet done so, then look into Titan Quest.  It's a 3D with a 2D perspective game, hack n slash dialo'esque style game.  I played through the original Titan quest and enjoyed it for the most part, however probably not enough to have made me go out and buy the expansion pack.  One of these days I might actually buy the expansion if for no other reason than to have it.  But since Im still enjoying Two Worlds and since Sammy will be joining me on Saturday (or Friday night which is her birthday) to play Lord of the Rings Online, then I see no possibility of my buying another game right now since I know that I will need to work hard to get sammy involved in Lotro since she's so addicted to wow and is a one game gamer really.  But if I can get her totally immersed and addicted to Lotro, then I've got a Lotro gaming buddy for life since I bought her the lifetime account as I have one too.  Ooooh I hope she'll be willing to give it a fair shake, else it's an awfully expensive birthday present if she only plays it for a month or so.  Ouch, I don't like that thought.

Anyway, Titan Quest was a good game to me.  But take that with a grain of salt because I also thought that Dungeon Siege II was a good game and many people didn't like it.  I never finished it though because it broke my immersion when some little mobs started running around with some sort of modern weapons in the game.  It totally brought me back to reality when I hit that part of the game and quit playing it.  Had it not been for that, I'd likely to have continued playing it.  I think it might have had a multiplayer aspect but I seem to remember that you started over each time you started multiplayer and just chose where you could start from a limited list.  But it's been a while so I may be thinking of something else.

But if you've not played Titan Quest or Dungeon siege then see if there are demos for either of them and give it a shot.  They're both not new generation now since they were both released a couple years ago, but DSII offered in my opinion, some great looking environments.  However knowing how you play now, I'd say it's likely that you might find DSII to be too easy for you.  Never the less, if they are available as demos, it's worth downloading and trying in my opinion.

I've played both of those, they were good games.  I like(d) BioWare games, man they knew how to make an RPG - Baldurs gate, NVN, Icewind Dale - omg those were games that literally stumped me - to the point where I would have to go to boards for answers. When you beat those games, you felt like you accomplished something.
They dont make rpgs like that anymore - now it's all about making money, not intellectual challenge
/rant off

CB what server/class are you on LotRO again?

I have a 43 capt on Landroval, now thats a busy server but not to the point where people are crawling over one another. It's the 'unofficial' rp server so people are a lot less focused on exp than on socializing. Great server but I leveled a lil too fast too early, so Im hoping this fal 43 wont be such a high level anymore

Ok so now Im *really* bored.
CB, what kind of char would you need on your server?
I can play any toon and level them really fast (cept LM).
I've done the capt, champ, guardian, hunter and Minst all to 25+ and I've done pretty much all the quests in all the areas, when I stopped at the beginning of the spring it was only because I couldnt get any groups up my level. sooooo...lemme know. All those classes are fun and I wouldnt mind playing them again, leveling is super easy, I could make any class to 20 in a weekend
