I know...that's why there are few films and/or actors that will get me and my wife out to the theater...Crowe and Bale (and Depp and Kiera Knightly) are ones that will...and of course comedies w/ Will Ferrell!

I watch a lot of westerns on saturday mornings, then my sunday mornings are filled with old war movies.  But I can't recall seeing The Quick and the Dead so far.  Guess I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for it.  Generally though the westerns and war movies I watch are all the old black and white shows which while some westers were really really corny (corny is a corny word too Laughing) I enjoy them a lot.

Laughing  Once in awhile I'll watch an old western.. it's comical the way some of the camera lens work  makes those Cowboys so slim and tall...is that why they call them spaghetti western.. I never thought about it that much before.   Sticking Tongue Out  ..just another way to apply "corny" I guess  Big Smiley Grin Laughing

Have you noticed that in some of those old westerns when the cowboys have a fight, their hat stays on their head or their clothes are still crispy ironed and spotless  Big Smiley Grin Laughing

One series that I religiously watched besides Rawhide was The Virginian/Gunsmoke/Lancer  and Bonanza.  The High Chapparell was good too.
Westerns nowadays ( I feel) definately don't have the grit/atmosphere that the old westerns had.

Would the modern westerns "feel" different if they were in black and white instead of colour?

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.

Soapbox Speech with tape across mouth Oh for pete's sake CB... I'm on a diet...remember..even the weird stuff sounds good.

I Googled the term..so it's an Italian notation *I think*..I should've suspected such a deal.  Clint Eastwood played both sides of the aisle..westerns vs cop...plus military.  I think his westerns were acceptable ..though Dirty Harry was just too much for me.  His latest boxing movie..was pretty good, maybe because I focused mostly on his role more than the female boxer.   Sticking Tongue Out

Well, as corny as they might have been, they were entertaining, unlike many of today's movies, Western or otherwise. You weren't subjected to seeing buillets flying out the back of someone who was shot in drawdown. That's not entertaining. That's barbaric!

I remember the goold old days, when Hollywood tried to further high ideals. They don't do that anymore, and all the crap and smut is fair game. Nothing is taboo. Absolutely nothing! ANd its just plain sick!

CB/Max...I remember The Good, the Bad and The Ugly as a Kid...LOVED that movie, I think it was mostly the soundtrack...but it gave me a fondness for italian cinema that led to a love of the horror films of Dario Argento...which led to a love, of course of his daughter (who is one wicked good director and WHOA anyway --- sorry that's sexist, my bad!!!)...but anyway, from Eastwood to Argento to then George Romero and then ultimately Sam Raimi!  It's a bizarre tract of likes for me, ultimately culminating in an appreciation for John Carpenter (my wife just doesn't GET that one!!!!).  But anyway, I went from a kid watching Clint Eastwood through zombies, the undead and finally Spiderman!  It's hilarious!  And in the end my favorite movie character of all time is an anti-hero named Snake Pliskin!

HA!  But it all started, I think, with watching that fist italian spaghetti western and thinking, hey, movies DON'T have to be generic!
