.....oh...wow...

....wow...

Whew...

Rarely....RARELY...will you see two of a generations finest actors at the absolute top of their game.  Crowe and Bale are astounding (pretty much as usual)..

And spot performances from Alan Tudyk, Ben Forster, Luke Wilson, Peter Fonda are just so well cast...

I don't know a TON about James Mangold as a director, but I'm now going to check his back-library....

I mean DAMN....

Fool me, will ya? Well, I'll think of a way to get you back. But I'll be sure to check out this movie. It's gotta be good if a bus is in it! Thanks for the tip.

3-10 to Yuma---Isn't this an old film remade? I think Van Heflin starred in the 50s one----but I could be wrong Laughing
I seem to remember someone waiting for a train, or transporting a prisoner, (or some such thing), it was a good film Agreed Happy very suspenseful. (is that even a word) Big Smiley Grin Laughing

Sandra...it IS a remake..and what a wonderful film.  Christian Bale and Russell Crowe are simply brilliant in this, and the supporting cast is 'cast' to a T...the fit is perfect for just about everyone in this movie.  It's a great movie, not just a great Western...

Well, I vaguely remember a story along those lines. Wasn't there one with Clint Eastwood (The Gamut, I think it's called) along those lines? Transport a criminal, I mean.

At any rate, anything with Russel Crowe is gonna be pretty good. I haven't seen even one bad move that had Crowe in it, save for The Gladiator which in my opinion was marginal. He was certainly great in Cinderella Man, Master and Commander, and A Brilliant Mind. And hey! There's just not enough western movies these days, so I'll check it out for sure!

p.s. Van Heflin. Sheesh! I had forgotten about him. He made some darn good movies!  And yes 'suspenseful' is a word.

Lengo..I agree on Crowe!  I mean for him NOT to get the Oscar for A Beautiful Mind and Master and Commander was criminal.

Here's one for ya, one of my top three Crowe performances...psychopathic computer program turned real killer in Virtuosity!

He was awesomely evil!!!

Hmmm... I haven't heard of Virtuosity. Will look for that on Netflix. But for adventure, Master and Commander just plain rocks! It's on my To Buy list.

I can't say which was his best performance. It's a toss up between Beautiful Mind and Cinderella Man. I guess I'd give Beautiful Mind a slight edge, but he was great in both of these.

heh heh.  I just signed up for Netflix. I should be getting my first movies today or tomorrow. The first two I'm getting are documentaries: Great Trains of America, Eastern Railroads, and Great Trains of America, Western Railroads.  Agreed Happy

Next on the list is The General, a silent film starring Buster Keaton. It's about (you guessed it) a locomotive!  Big Smiley Grin Laughing

Just goes to show, you can take the boy outta the train, but you can't take the trains outta the boy!

Cindarella Man is my favorite Crowe movie, but that is due to his interplay w/ Paul Giamatti...I still think he was best in A Beautiful Mind, but that could also be because I got to look at A Beautiful Jennifer Connolly in the process!

Master and Commander is one of my eight year old's favorite movies...he loves the ships...

I saw Master and Commander in the theatre, and this is the way to see it. Erm.. I mean, with a 5.1 speaker system.  The sound is awesome!  When there's a scene below deck, you actually hear people's footsteps above you. Is totally rockin'!

Some people say this movie is "A Guy Thing". Bullpuckey! It's about bravery, duty, and honor. And there's some super cool special effects to go along with it.

Still, I think Zorro could beat up Captain Crowe!  Big Smiley Grin Laughing See The Mask of Zorro for one rockin' good time!
