I've been looking around for a new game, and this is one that I don't have. I'm against it right off the bat after seeing the demo, but perhaps it's cleaned up in the Retail version. Should I do it? What do you think?

Yes, I think it's definitely worth getting at $19.99

But, you may end up being disappointed with the performance unless you don't mind sacrificing quality for performance.  The game is in my opinion very nice to look at as long as all the settings are up near to maximum, but when the quality is up high, the performance does suffer at least on my rig (and apparently on many others on the TM forums).

Still, I think it's worth the price tag of $19.99 without question, if you really like roman city building games.  But one thing to keep in mind if you've played CivCity: Rome (which I know you have) is that the inhabitants of CivCity: Rome you can get to know.  You know where they live, you see them doing certain daily activities (besides work) and in Caesar IV you may find that the inhabitants appear to be nothing more then some automatons which is the way that I perceive them.  You see plenty of inhabitants running around for what seems like meaningless reasons other than some key inhabitants like tax men, and engineers etc.

Sure the workers in Caesar IV are cute and it's always a treat to see someone juggling, or flying a kite the first time, but after a while you think "It's no wonder this inhabitant is sweating away in such and such work building, the idiot stands around flying a kite all day long, is he like mentally challenged or something".  So the animations are cutesy and all, but after you've seen it, you've seen it.  The sounds are good the first time through as well.  you may find yourself clicking on a lot of individuals to hear what they have to say.  Some of them are quite funny, though like the animations, once you've heard it, it's seldom funny the second time.

Still, I think it's worth the price tag of $19.99
