City Builder Support Posts

I hope that this thread can be of assistance to our venerable Forum Host..City Builder

As a format I thought if any and all members here in these forums could post their positive posts about dealing with health issues.  The goal is to help..encourage and promote a climate of positive resolve toward City Builder's health issue and working through the process of gaining a healthier persona..both mind and body.

I must say there's already been an enormous and very genuine sincerely posted outpouring.. which inspired me to reconsider some of my own health concerns.. I even had a much healthier Lunch today..just before I started posting this thread.

I think my way of supporting City Builder will be to firstly..thank him for making his condition and needs known.  For me personally..it opened the door to this avenue of response.  I plan on doing even better with my own very restricted Diet..thanks to you City Builder (CB).

I plan on drinking my morning Juice more faithfully..and I'll not sneak a chocolate chip cookie for that afternoon snack.

I'll eat more salad..hopefully both CB and I can find some way of making them interesting and not be discouraged if they don't fill us up..like a big ol Beef burrito would..the salad will soon get the job done if we stick to it.

Learn to take your Meds in a way that makes them the most effective.. I have Pharmacists in the family so it's easy info for me to obtain..but any pharmacist will share what is recommended.  Since certain meds need special treatment for when they are applied..this is vital to get the best performance from taking them.  This is important..the cost of meds and the effect they have in making you better is worth the effort gaining this info.

Just for CB's sake..I plan on walking for 20 minutes more each day. So CB when you are out doing your daily stroll..I'm with you..for an extra 20 minutes.  Even if I'm a bit weary..I know it'll make me stronger each time I get through the extra time.

Now the cruncher is the PC time.  I already have made it a rule not to sit for more than an hour at a time.  For each hour I get up and move around..pace, move my arms...I have a one step box for this time..I try to do ten(I started with two) reps up and down with each leg..wow!! my thighs and calfs started looking "defined"..cool.  I accredit this to relieving my leg stress..plus the daily walks have made me more resilient to the effects of sitting...which is kind of a reward in itself.  Sort of like building an immunity to the ails of leg cramps and all that is bad from sitting.

I hope to post results in this thread..everyone can do the same.  You never know what may inspire you to do something healthy.  Any suggestions from this great membership group..maybe will add years to another's life... I think CB has already done that for me..and I'm eternally grateful.  Thumbs Up

I appreciate the opportunity to lose some weight with you CB... let's make this the greatest devised City Building strategy ever.  OK?   Smiley Blink

you know a small bit of chocolate each day is a great source of anti-oxidents, it is considered good for you, in ounces I don't remember of hand the amount, but that cookie may be a good for you treat to have too.  Thumbs Up

Well, I'm game for this!

I run 3 miles a day, if I stop, i die...it's pretty much that simple.  So I pledge to increase that to 3.5 per day.  Doesn't sound like a lot, but once you get into a work-out regimen, any change as far as increasing it has a tangible effect.

I will also endeavor to eat fewer Slim Jims..OR at least feel REALLY BAD about eating them when I do!

Thumbs Up  That's having an attitude in the right direction pat!!  Mm?..something beyond new Math for sure..

I've been sipping my Green Tea..and had a Broccoli Burst salad..for Lunch...actually it was pretty tasty..that's a good thing.

I bought a book with recipes that follow the Nutri system criteria..probably have to go shopping so I'll have the right stuff..  Laughing

Sure hope CB is making it alright through these first few days of adjustment.. and as promised I walked for the full extra twenty minutes ..my walking buddy couldn't take it, but told me to "go for it.."  I appreciated his support...gives me incentive to do even more.

Ah HAH!!..I knew chocolate would find a way to become "holy..no harm" food ..and who's to get in the way of a pzillion chocoholics.   Big Smiley Grin Laughing

Thanks Guys and Gals, I appreciate it.  I was just thinking to start posting what I've been doing in a thread in case someone ever googled google and found it, maybe they would find it to be an inspiration or at the very least a way of seeing that if that flabby so and so can do it, so can I!  So maybe I'll keep it in here instead so that when i come back to write more, I can read the inspiration of others and keep the desire to make myself better both emotionally and physically.

I did pretty well yesterday.  I took my meds as the doctor prescribed, and skipped breakfast and lunch as I had discussed with my doctor.  Round about 2pm I started to feel really really sick, so I quit work early and had a lie down for a couple hours.  After getting up I felt tremendously better.  I have a feeling the appetite suppressants are too strong to take 2 of them daily as prescribed so I'll try cutting them to only 1 tommorrow.  Plus they make me sweat incredibly.  So dinner time came around  and I went down and picked up chinese food for dinner last night.  Sammy had her usual Pad Thai, and orange beef.  I had a war won ton soup (minus the veggies, didnt feel like having them last night) and I also ordered a chicken chop suey for myself but by the time I got done with the wonton soup, I didn't want the chop suey so sammy took it to work today for her lunch.  Ooops, that's right, I took a piece (1) of the orange beef, and it was good.  Total calories for the day couldnt possibly have exceeded 850.  Sodium on the other hand, might have been high due to the chicken broth in the soup, but right now Im concentrating on the calories to ease me into losing a chunk of weight fast, then can concentrate on both calories as well as blandness (oops, I mean sodium intake).  I didn't go swimming as per my last couple posts, I really didn't want Weston going in the pool so soon after getting groomed.

So summary time:
Breakfast, 1 large cup of black coffee
Lunch: nothing
Dinner: Large wonton soup without the veggies, and really only half of a large since the other half is in the fridge.
Liquid intake: 3 glasses of water, 1 large cup of coffee

Today I woke up around 7am and was extremely hungry.  I took my meds as prescribed, had my coffee as *I* prescribed, and sat down on the sofa to watch the morning news.  Had to start work at about 8 am.  Round about 2pm I was feeling a bit hungry but decided not to take another appetite suppresant to day and see if I still was going to feel ill.  I havn't felt ill so far so I think that might have been the cause of it.  I skipped breakfast and lunch today.  And for dinner we are having bbq boneless skinless chicken ****** (we don't put sauces or seasoning on them as we like it that way), and white rice (from last nights chinese food that neither of us ate - the white rice that is).  I was just about to getting up from my desk, been at it all day, but with breaks, to lock the dogs in the bedroom so that I can go in the pool for a half hour or an hour and get some circulation going.  My ankles and feet this morning when I awoke were only rivaled by Marilyn Monroes, they were svelt and thin.  Though they hurt like the dickens, probably due to the every day expanding and shrinking of them with the water.  Unfortuantely while sitting at my desk for a good portion of the day, I can feel the water creep into my legs, it's like having spiders crawling down your legs, you can feel the water trickling down there.  After the pool Im going to lay down on the sofa for a while since the doctor told me when Im sitting around the house, try to keep my legs up to since water flows with gravity and will go into my leggs and feet if I let it.  Theyre actually quite painfull at the moment because they are swelling as I type but the pool and putting them up on the sofa will help I think.  I was actually thinking about a walk this AM when I got up but it was horribly hot and humid.  I think we hit a high of 112 today (44c) and must have had about 60-65% humidity, and it's still misreably hot out right now.  But the pool should feel nice, plus it takes pressure off of the joints.

It's supposed to cool down to 106 on Friday, so it might be cool enough in the AM to go for a walk.

Summary:
Breakfast: Nothing
Lunch: Nothing
Dinner: BBQ Chicken ****** (boneless, skinless, no adds), White rice
Liquid intake: 1 large cup of black coffee, 4 glasses of water (iced).

Total weight loss so far: Yeah, right!  I don't know I dont weigh myself at home, I usually wait for my trip to the doctor for that.  But I do feel thinner since beginning last week, at least a little thinner.  We do have a scale here and I'll dig it out after like two or three weeks to see where Im at so there is no suprises to me when I weigh in at the doc's office.

Oh yeah, I got a call from a doctor today to setup an appointment for the cardiac stuff, I made my appointment then the guy tells me that it will be $1000.00 for the tests and to alot 3 hours for them.  I politely tell him that my doctor had worked it out with that doctor to bill my parents for the test and he politely told me that wasn't possible and they don't even take cash anymore, but that because my doc had talked to that doctor they had agreed to drop the price substantially and take cash or credit card as payment.  I then promptly cancelled the apointment and told him it would have to be worked out between my parents, my doctor and that doctor and for them to call me once they have worked it all out.  My doctor then called me not more than 10 minutes later to tell me that he thought it was a good thing for me to cancel the appointment too and that he would talk to my parents about it since they have agreed to pay for the tests, and hell, it's them that wants me to have the tests done, not me.  So strangely enough 30 minutes later my mother calls me.  And through our conversation, she asks how Im feeling and what not and I tell here IM fine, and she says that regardless she thinks I need to go get those tests done to eliminate the possiblitiy of a faulty heart valve or something like that being the cause.  So I sit, and I wait till they can get it all together so that I can go to the heart specialist for some tests.  Funny that my doc says, it's only a 20 minute test, you walk on a tredmill for 20 minutes and they monitor you.  Yet this guy on the phone says it's a 3 hour test.  Yeah, like Im going to last 3 hours doing anything. haha.  Good luck.  Oh well, I wait and I will see what's up.  Now, it's time for a cool relaxing swim, get away from the heat of the monitor, and cool off for a while.

Thanks again for the support, it is appreciated.

Exactly what I thought CB...I got here late on your original post and so many had already chimed in..I though about providing Links to some of your descriptors..going to the Doctor and having so many areas of concern can be overwhelming.

I'm watching my calorie intake too.. I do try my best to keep it straight..it takes a focused effort.

I can't take any appetite suppressants..and some Meds because they have such adverse effects on other failing body components..so if you are able to..make them  do what they're suppose to do for you.

I've found after the first month..things become more routine..and you have some progress to show for..which is the best incentive there is in this whole matter.  One thing..I'm not buying any clothes..I have a whole wardrobe the next size down waiting for me... hehe  Now that's makes me put my fork down for sure..

Looking forward to seeing you fight through this ...philosophically speaking..victory over the trials and tribulation of gaining back ones health...can there be any greater battle with such a rich reward?  ...You have to think hard to top this one..and not having to be going it alone... I like that concept.  Smiley Blink

Hello and Welcome  How are you doing today CB?...

I went to our County Fair..Senior Day...woohoo!!  Smiley Blink  Got more than my normal daily dose of walking for sure.  Only bad deal..from 10 to Noon they were giving away free Ice Cream.. hehe Well, who can turn down a freebie..so cut out my usual Elephant Ears..and called it even.

Temps are cooling off here..hope you are getting some relief.  It is so much easier to exercise when the temps are tolerable.

I figure tomorrow I'll feel the extra mileage from today... and have been checking where I can swim..other than in the River ..which is in my back yard and has really cold water temp..so looking for a good Pool setting.  Swimming is a great way to acquire low impact cardiovascular exercise, so glad to know it is available to you.

As I eat my Steamed veggies..I have you in mind..so it makes it much easier... Sticking Tongue Out..well kinda.. Laughing
