Hi guys,

I'm burned out on CIV, CivCity: Rome, CotN, etc and I'm looking for a new CB game.  I was reading some of the posts and would really like opinions, pleeeeeeeeeeeze.

I was think of:  1701 Ad
                      Guild
                      Settlers

Which one has the prettiest design abilities and walkthrough or strategy guide (I hate surpises, especially when I'm like 1/2 way through the scenario).  Crying

Your input will be greatly appreciated. Agreed Happy

I like 1701 and the Settlers a lot. Guild is a little too complicated for me, but it may be OK for you.
Let us know which one you choose (for now - I'm sure you'll get to them all eventually  Wink ) and how you are doing.  Agreed Happy

Go Guild 2!

Actually, you cannot lose with any of those choices...the difference in the guild is that it's more micromanagement on a PERSONAL empire level, where you run your own business, achieve personal political goals, etc.  A more 'personal' city builder...kind of a medieval life sim!

Both Anno and Guild 2 have GREAT tutorials!  And graphically, I'm very partial to The Guild 2...

I vote Anno 1701

The Guild 2 is a little too much walking time for me and a bit too complex in some areas where I didn't really feel it needed to be.

Anno however is a much more traditional CB game then is The Guild 2.  The Guild 2 CB aspects are more on the firstperson/thirdperson type of city building.  For example your not God, but rather you are a character in the city and you can buy house or buildings of employment and then you run them.  This is a very far stretch from the "traditional" City Building game, which is Not to say that it's Not fun, because it can be.  But if your looking for a more traditional CB game, then Anno would be a better fit.

Settlers were nice though it's a bit dated now.  I think the largest screen resolution that Settlers 5: Heritage of kings went to is 1280x1024 and this may not be a problem for ya, but for me on the 22" widescreen it looks pretty bad.  The earlier settlers were probably limited in this way too as well as being more cartoony looking.  If that doesn't bother you, then settlers might be allright for ya.  Although Anno is a modern game so it's got all the nice eye candy in it which makes it really look great, and of course The Guild 2 also looks beautiful as well.

Let us know what you go with and how you get along.

Hello and Welcome  My 2 cents..Suggesting 1701.. is a natural.. pretty much a flawless game. Good to excellent in most facets of game play.  For a CBer... just down right enjoyable.

pat!! knows I truly ..have a passion for Guild 2.. also.. but it does have complexities that a player has to be prepared for. Detail..micro processes..multi faceted economy.. needs plenty of time to invest in working out personal strategies because the player characters can be so varied.  I think everyone should try it.. and if you get into it, this game is just as addictive as any of them.  A very beautiful game..visually, and the concept covers all the major gaming formats..in some fashion.

Nope, nobody mentioned it till now, but I did play B&W2 and I much prefered the original over the expansion pack "gods of war".  GOW was just too hardcore for what I liked about B&W2 in the first place.

I may actually give it another go tonight and play without the expansion pack again since I never did finish it off.  However, Im not so sure that this would fall into a CB style of game, never the less a fun game to play if you enjoy having to deal with your creature and you do get a certain amount of building cities in the game since you lay the blueprints and your worshipers will build what you have layed the blueprints for, be that farms, houses, or more.

If anyone decides to play B&W2, make sure to do the tutorial even if you know how to play because you gain a lot of points (can't remember what they were, gold? Reputation, adorance, worship etc), when you complete the whole tutorial which helps you get off to a good start in the game.

I'd also recommend doing the tutorial of The Guild 2 because it's near impossible to try to figure out what it is you're supposed to do in The Guild 2 without the tutorial.  I started it up again about 2 nights ago and skipped the tutorial, I played all of about 20 minutes struggling the entire time trying to figure out what I was supposed to do.  I finally gave up and decided I'd put it off until I had more time and could do the tutorial again.

yes, it is a tuff game truly, fun though, I had a ruff time at first, when you earn you expand the types of buildings as well as buying ral cool effects, you are the g*d and the guardian of the people's your are freeing, you earn talents that are fun to use added to your abillities to interact, you'll see, in this game you are so G*d like in forming the society and community, your cursor is a HAND that grasps the people up and places them at jobs, even that cursor hand can but a new additive effect, how would you like to rip tree's from the ground and then turn them into a pile of wood, and then buy the grasping feature allowing you to grasps tons of tree's sucked up inot your palm.
