I found this today, it's rather interesting in that it lends some insight into where the game is going, be that good, bad or otherwise.

Enjoy,

<a href="http://gamevideos.com:80/swf/gamevideos11.swf?embedded=1&autoplay=0&src=http://gamevideos.com:80/video/videoListXML%3Fid%3D12460%26adPlay%3Dfalse" target="_blank">http://gamevideos.com:80/swf/gamevideos11.swf?embedded=1&autoplay=0&src=http://gamevideos.com:80/video/videoListXML%3Fid%3D12460%26adPlay%3Dfalse</a>

After watching the video several times, I come more to the realization that many have already come to that this is NOT SimCity 5 or anywhere close to that.  It also most certainly looks very very much like they used whatever engine they have for Caesar IV in SimCity: Societies as well.  So if you want to brush up on how the game plays, you'd be better off replaying Caesar 4 instead.

I have little to no interest in this title anymore.  The lollipop city reminds me heavily of the board game "chutes and ladders", and might be better suited for people of a younger age.  From the demo in the video, it really shows off how they have kept a lot of how to mechanically play the game from Caesar IV as well as many of the ways that Caesar IV had to play due to the engine itself.

Perhaps some of you folks will enjoy it, but for me... I don't think so.  It looks less like a city building game to me and more on a sociology project.

Thanks for posting the link CB
I'm reserving judgement until I've played the DEMO Agreed Happy
I like the fact that we can have different societies (Orwellian, Happy, Sad, etc), but I'm betting that it's a processor hog, so I may not even be able to play it until I get a new PC.

Looking around cautiously Well if this is the Pre consensus..  I don't see where any of the TWO title following is going to be Happy Campers...errhmm..Players.   Crying

I can only reserve judgement after the Release too.  But the worries are valid..and IF this is a Title that is going in a NEW direction..sobeit.  I wish TM success... but what a gamble in my opinion.

just another thought.. as I stated in the beginning of the marriage of Two titles and Two fanatical communities.. I wagged my head on "how in the world can EVERYone be pleased with the outcome?"  I just don't see it happening.. glad I retired from betas after CotN.. Sticking Tongue Out

Does anybody remember how TM released the Ceasar IV demo?  Did they release it before the game was released or after sales started to slow down on Caesar IV, then they released the demo to try to boost sales a bit?

Smiley Blink I think there was a small window of Demo play allowed before the Retail release CB  Sometimes the Demo needs a tweak or two..since it is a PR and Sales vehicle.

The common practice in using "timed" game play from an actual game scenario is what most likely will happen.  If Caesar IV's Demo is a model then TM seems to be comfortable with that arrangement.

Those are my guesses.. there may be outside influences from the Publishers..seeing that it'll be their PR..and Marketing people calling the shots.   I hope there is a good Demo..a good one for TM's sake.. heck it's a new game in my eyes.. I didn't really like SimCities in their original state..for personal play reasons.  So maybe I'll be a happy gamer with this one..sure hope so.  It's the here and now.. and I haven't found one game that I can become to attracted to...like I did with evolution of the Impressions team CityBuilders.  Right now Guild2 is probably the closest to that "magical" addictive attraction.   Wink

It could really sway things both ways.

If they release it prior to full retail release, it might bofo things up for them in that the people that are rabid SimCity 4 players have the opportunity to try before buy it and find out that it strays too far from the sim city games for them, where as if they don't release it till after release, then there might be many rabid SimCity 4 players that will buy it purely on name recognition.

Seems to me in this games situation, it might be best for them to release the demo sometime after full retail release to try to get the simcity players that will buy it on name recognition alone so as not to give them the opportunity to discover that it's straying off the traditional SC roadway.

Im really tossed about it.  I crave a new City Building game, but  it seems  a really big stretch for this to be much different than city life or even Caesar IV with a new face.  Yet I want a new city builder really bad.  I suppose if it retails at $49.95 then they'll have me waiting for the demo becausde I don't really care to waste $50.00 however it it retailed for $39.95 they'd have a higher chance of getting my money demo unseen.  I realize it's only $10.00 but that seems to be my point of no return.

Wink Yes you are right on target.. it's hard to say which way it'll all pan out.  Those who are in charge of Marketing strategies will have to choose..one way or the other.

I see no way out on absolving the two entities of Fan communities.. and this might be what the Publishers are realizing.. So what.. if they just go ahead with this particular title in a normal vane.  The game will sell and make a profit over time..just using your logic..that the Title is close enough to a familiar one.

TM needs the exposure..and support to keep doing what they are in business for..hopefully this isn't a make or break situation.  They need to find their niche and keep whatever Fanbase they've acquired happy or at least satisfied in a positive way.. and this one might be a stretch on the currently observed premise.  Looks like to me for reading comments from some insatiable numbers of radical fanatics on the one side for sure.  That Kuplo character seems to be the only levelheaded poster over on TM's site...cautious..but reasonable.   hehe  Laughing

Like you I just want a good playing/able game.. I'll spend the money one way or the other..and of course the better the price the more volume of the product..so I hope they think in those terms.  I'd buy gift copies if the price is moderated..to like $39.99.. like you 50 bucks makes ..or takes it to another economic psychological level of willingness for any consumer to spend.. and I spent lots of time dealing with that facet of marketing in my lifetime.  Smiley Blink

CB...great find with the video!

I'm of the school of thought that it's too early in the game for me to make a firm judgement....

I lean on one thing.  I've honestly enjoyed Impressions/TM games in the past and I have to give them the benefit of the doubt first and foremost...

So we'll see!  I actually enjoy the CB games more than the SIM games so from that standpoint, if it's modelled after Caesar IV more than SimCity 4, then that's a good thing to me...but the 'title' is the rub and is essentially what's causing all the fuss...perhaps EA should have made an announcement saying that this was NOT SC5, but a variant, and that conceptualization of SC5 is still on-going!

CB...remember Settler 6, a builder coming in Sept!  Hang in there man!!!!

later,
pat!

I've got settlers 6 on the top of my list and I've just got to say...  That had to be the BEST product placement advertisement I've seen in years.  To advertise Settlers 6 in the middle of the video for Societies is absolutely brilliant.
