I'm still waiting on Gothic 3 to have a major price drop before I take the plunge.  I really kind of feel like I was burned on the other one or two versions that I owned because I found the controls so akward to use that I didn't want to play it.

Hopefully they will rectify that in G4.  Or did they rectify that with G3?

Looking around cautiously  Weeeell CB.. I think pat!! put in some playing time with Gothic 3.   I had to give up.. the camera control or whatever it was with me.. I kept gettin "upsidedown" most everytime I needed to whack an Orc.. or just move quickly.

Beautiful game.. and the color depth even with me playing at lower res than pat!!..  So I suppose I'll check Gothic 4 out when and IF it arrives.  I think the Devs lost a goodly part of their faithful with this last (in my estimation)  "Dud"..   Laughing   I might be surprised.. sometimes gamers do have a forgiving nature..we'll see.

CB...I did play Gothic 3 through twice, actually almost three times....The controls were a bit more standard in G3 but they still had the feel of G1 and G2...Now, I have to say I didn't mind it ONCE I got used to it but BOY did it take some getting used to.

G3 was full of some broken quests but the last patch fixed, from what I understand, any gamekiller bugs...systems that barely me the low specs to play STRUGGLED mightely with it, systems that met the preferred specs could play it fine...those are the down sides of the game...

The plus?  HUGE MAP HUGE MAP HUGE MAP!

And the feel of G3 had a more human/medieval feel that the Elder Scrolls game...which is good if that's what you're in the mood for....

I enjoyed it, I'm worried about PB not being involved any more because they brought an indie spirit to the game that is sorely lacking in games today....

pat!

rofl!  Dude you hit on some major points there.
Until I installed G3, I was THE biggest Gothic fan. Gameplay-wise one was amazing: Story, features, AI, atmosphere, I would give g1 11/10. As for the controls, man any game that you like, you *will* adapt to progress (I was fighting with mouse and blocking with my numpad enter because it was the closest I could get to a winning combat setup. Still and all, G1 was one of those games that you play  (and replay) because of the 'little things'. Too many to go into detail, needless to say, it made me a die hard fan. G2 came out and it was good, not as good as 1 but still better than any US equivalent RPG...then...came G3.
It was a failure, total failure. I build monster machines and when mine was playing g3 like it was a bunch of moving screenshots, I knew this turkey was far from cooked. I was so disappointed in the the constant stream of bugs, CTDs and just an overall sh*tty looking engine (looked great on screenshots, in motion, it looked like stop-motion claymation) I just decided to forget about G3, wasnt interested in patching or updates or anything.

And ya, swaying grasses and leaves blowing in trees?  Ya, that stuff is only appreciated when your game actually WORKS. If not it just makes you realize how little time they spent to make a stable game as to eyecandy

Yes my Gothic 3 is shelved now...

I have a much faster system today..but I'm not sure if that helps.
Think I play my Two Worlds instead.
