"Warning about Starforce (Frontline 4.0)"

I went out on Friday 27th 2007 (Release Date) to buy a copy of
the game " Dawn of Magic ", Published by DeepSilver.

The day before I've searched the net thoroughly if the
game contains any form of Starforce Related Copy Protection.
I found no information about Starforce being on that game.

When I installed the game Dawn of Magic it was protected with
Starforce (Frontline 4.0) !!

It is apparent that DeepSilver have "Sneaked" in Starforce without
giving any public information. Further there is no information of
this copy protection on the game box.

--------------------------------------------------------

I went ahead and installed the Starforce drivers. You do have an
option to click "No". But that will render the game unplayable.
This is all after you have payed for the game And opened the box !!

The reason I decided to let Starforce install was the Version No 4.0 .
After checking it's still the old Starforce being installed.
The only difference is that the "root" drivers are installed in a
different place !!

--------------------------------------------------------

My experience with Starforce with 3 different version numbers on
3 different Computers:

I get Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD) when "Shutting Down" Or "Rebooting"
my computer. Plus the whole System is showing erratic behavior, like
the screen is "Blinking" on certain areas etc.

I do know that some people report they have no problems with Starforce.

But I also know that it's impossible to know how many have problems.
Because there are very few people who post in forums. Like me for
example, if I didn't know some English this post would not have been here.

--------------------------------------------------------

With many Publishers stop using Starforce as copy protection. I think
it would be prudent to grade any copy protection of this kind,
as a Virus !!
Starforce is so intrusive in your system that it classifies as
a Computer Virus....

Thumbs Up Thanks so much for the info UC

I will not have SF on my PC..if I find out that it is present..and I can't use an official and complete removal tool..then the game goes..  I will reformat my HDD's.. disassemble my PC if I have to..no Star Force period.   When I did tech support 24/7..and players were having BSOD's and CTD's..and every other random miscue..  and then finding out it was SF causes all these headaches.  I'll never be a fan for SF's approach to copy protection.

Now to be clear..I do believe the Dev's for the games should be able to protect their work.  Without it..they would not be able to make any profit..because of all the pirating. Thus no gaming business where they can afford to pay good programmers..do high quality work and have happy players.  It's a nightmare..as it is today just to keep going..so we can play great games.  Sticking Tongue Out
