The villan in Little Red Riding Hood is a wolf. The villan in the Three Little Pigs is a wolf. In countless fairy-tales, it was the wolf that frightened people.  These stories are not mere childs play. They taught morals and common sense. And back in those days, the population was much less than it is today, and frequently outlying villages were endangered by wolves.

Two or three hundred years later, the wolf is the endangered species. We have no fear of him.  Gone are snarling teeth, the guttural sounds of a canine ready to kill. Now we have ourselves to fear!

Some guy shot up 30 people, then himself. The paparazi have driven Brittany Spears mad, and a real nutzoid named Osama Bin Labin has started a movement!

It appears that the wolf is us! People just plain snap!! They come snarling monsters.

I feel a lot of empathy for Brittany Spears. She was only 17 when she made the talk shows. She was too young for the managers, the booking agents, the road crews, and ultimatley, the paparazzi.  The paparazzi have enfuriated stars for ages! Now they've really gone and done it, and driven a person crazy.  She's bravely telling her story, but she can barely manage. Yet if you listen, she's telling the truth!

Then some nutzoid went and shot up a university!

I feel dreadfully sorry for these people. Their anguish is perhaps the most unimaginable! To loose your mind is the worst thing that can happen!

Sheesh!

Somebody pour me a drink!

Crying  Dreadfully dark week in America..my father's favorite comic said it best..

"I have met the enemy, he is us". Pogo

As for Spears...the grey wolf may have been endangered, but the paparazzi made a formidable two legged replacement.

I watched the news about the Virginia Tech shootings with disbelief, and all the time the body count was growing, all those young lives gone, blasted away in some sort of execution spree, I don't know what to say, I have nothing to say, it's incredible that this kind of thing is happening still, my heart goes out to the students and their families Crying Crying

Crying  I had to turn the TV off... it's almost indiscernible grief. My heart aches for those parents.

Sadly our cultural and social demands are creating expectations where individuals no longer have the capacity to cope.. we literately have become a society that continues to prove it is breeding these human "assassins"... Whether it be guns..knives..or a camera wolf, we all are at risk of someone going postal at any given time.

Fixing what is broken will take a long time..where does one start?  I'd say in the home first..but even that has been decimated by a permissive social environment.

How about we get the hell out of Iraq, which never should have been started in the first place, where most of the people say they want us to leave, and STOP PISSING OFF EVERYBODY thinking that OUR WAY is the best!

Nobody really knew this guy! Nobody spent enough time with him. He went nuts, and it makes me nuts, knowing that SOMEBODY could have spent some time with him.

We reap what we sow, and we sow insanity in many, many ways. We dehumanize everything. Even phone calls are automated.

This culprit was abused, ignored, and unloved. Instead of telling people how great we are, why don't we show 'em? We can start by honoring democracy, and do the will of the Iraquis! How many more people gotta die, 'cause going into Iraq was 'the right thing to do'?

Bin Ladin is unloved. So is G.W. Bush. They're both sick, and both are causing destruction, with the help of the paparrazzi press, following them everywhere!

Before I post: (I don't want to sound like I'm totally disagreeing, as I know the concern is genuine..I just don't like to involve personal credos, and ethnic coloration..to something bigger than one's personal beliefs, and my following comments are based what my heart, mind and eyes has absorbed over most of my adult lifetime).  We can always finger point to politics and religious disparity..everyone follows the beat of their own drum.  So I refuse to make this about a political debate..or whose religion has the best offering for mankinds spiritual eternity. Every side of the debate will say their way is best..and the world will be better off without the existence of the other..a no win situation, and history working it's repetitious magic.

Sick?...yes the world in general is very sick..ailing from the fallout of misguided facets of our own making.  The power of government, and religion doesn't come from one individual.. but through the permission of a collective supporting mass of individuals...they assign power to leaders...thus justify any means to whatever end is at stake.

I do agree that the lack of a golden rule edict..of the human race being one big family where sincere care, concern and love for each other..would offer this human family a much healthier environment.  The road looks to be a long one in achieving this greater good for each individual.  The one's who cannot cope...endanger those who are still enduring this mess we're all a part of today.

If we look for an good example of change..remaking which sometimes appears very destructive, but is unstoppable..and in the end makes for a new beginning..this would be the Earth in itself.  Earthquakes, volcanoes..tidalwaves..severe weather occurrences..all these thing can occur..but none will destroy the whole..ever.  We don't need to wish that these terrestrial phenomena should be applied to cure or kill mankind.  But we do need something just as powerful to work for the betterment, and good of all humankind...and that something..is drastic change in the way we think..as individuals.  I can only start and end with my own thoughts and resulting actions..the rest is up to..you.

Without making an essay for hope... and a brighter future, I think I've voiced enough of my thoughts.   Smiley Blink  I've certainly appreciated those sincere thoughts of your's Lengo...just recognizing that there is an ominous problem that needs to be addressed is just the tip of the iceberg..so do we knowingly choose sail on the Titanic..??  Sticking Tongue Out

Well, I'm really sensitive to this kind of thing. I really go off! It not only frustrates me. It makes me furious!

People should KNOW what they're doing. You can't act on faith alone! The moral thing to do is not always the right thing to do. What WORKS is the right thing to do.

If people would get more educated, then act, many of the problems would disappear. It's the same addage as "think before you speak".  Think before you act! Get educated first. What works for me doesn't work for others.

But the biggest problem of them all -- people have no time for love. Without that, there's no peace. No inner peace, and therefore no external peace.

It's not a matter of whose right and whose wrong. It's a matter of what's practical. To nobly go into oblivion is foolish, especially when "it's the right thing to do". That applies for do-gooders and evil doers!

 Smiley Blink  Good points Lengo..

Sadly some of the most educated are the biggest offenders toward the good of everyone else.. and the least educated primitive peoples find themselves unburden and innocent from the general ailments the rest of the world displays.  I'm not against education, just the paradoxical intent connected to how some individuals use the knowledge gained from it.

If we judge what others do or are..then we pass the same judgement on ourselves.  I don't think any innocence can be found from any perspective.  It goes against my personality to harbor rage..anger .. go whack something or someone.  I do find expressing my frustration about the current affairs helps me cope with such impossible situations.  Those without immediate cures..are the worst of the lot.  I hope this make sense.. Smiley Blink

I appreciate your practical approach...I agree, no time for anything that has healing qualities.  We learn to fear first for survival..and it has become an all consuming process.

Well, I'm healing already. I'm not so upset anymore.

heh heh heh. My thesis in college, much to my professors' dismay was a treatise on facts. I extolled all the problems with them -- they can be omitted, either intently or by accident. They can be misinterpreted. THey can lead to erroneous conclusions. And they can be used as weapons. I got a great grade on the paper, but there were numerous questions in the margins about my sincerity toward life, and plenty of chuckles. I guess I showed them, the fact mongers! And even more to their dismay, the school's newpaper got a hold of this and printed it in it's entirety. I was a celebrity for a little while!

 Big Smiley Grin Laughing

Needless to say, I still put great faith in getting as many facts as you can. If you don't learn from history, you're gonna make the same mistakes over and over!  And G.W. shoulda seen this coming! There is no excuse for this terrible blunder (probably the worst the 21st century will see). He shoulda give the UN all the time they wanted. "Sanctions aren't working" is a lie! And "I didn't think victory would be this easy" was the stoopidest thing he ever said!  "we all believed that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction" is also false! Not everybody did! Germany didn't, Russia didn't, and I didn't!

G.W. has proved the Islamists (not muslims, Islamists) right! He stepped in and bashed the threat making the threat even worse! Now the Islamists have proof that we're stoopid, corrupt, and self-indulgent. Our attempt to "do the right thing" has caused much more damage to Iraq than Saddamn ever did! G.W. should be put on trial, just like Saddam, and found guilty of

1. Underiming the UN's charter
2. Going to war illegally
3. Contributing to the deaths of over 3000 US soldiers and contractors and countless Iraquis.
4. Endangering the U.S.

If you think that guy who shot up Virginnia tech is nuts, think how nuts G.W is!

I can still see the videotape of him sobbing in Iraq, visiting the troops, like he was Napoleon on the battlefield, fighting for freedom and democracy, and all things good!  And I can still hear him saying "God wanted me to be president".  These are signs of a deranged man! An ex cocaine-head!

Like the fellow for Virginia tech, his thinking was all wrong, but he followed his heart, ignoring his head (like he has one) and didn't have enough facts to know what this would lead to!

Ironically, I can forgive the guy from Virginnia tech, but I cannot forgive G.W. He fed this fellow's insanity, and he's caused more damage than anyone wants to believe! And that is a FACT! Nobody WANTS TO BELIEVE IT! After all, admitting it would be an embarrassment to the US! Democracy can get whackos elected, idiots elected, and in GW's case, both!

Now, I'm done with this thread! I hve physical pain that is hard to ignore. I don't need emotional pain too!
