Received this ALERT the morning.

Those who play WoW can be targeted.  This update is for both XP and Vista users.

The security update, MS07-017, from Microsoft's Web site is the one you want to make sure your WoW logins are protected.

This is the English US url

Update

I'm gone to do this asap.. Smiley Blink

I'm still with Win XP, and I'm getting updates. One has me worried. Er,m, make that two.

One of em says it's a verification that my copy is a valid copy. What gives with that. Mine is, and it's registered with their site. So why do I need to relinquish more disk space? I've lost more disk space to these updates than anything else. I know my copy is valid. MS knows it is. And so does their tech support. I have two free calls left.

The other is a Windows media update. Mine works. I don't wanna change it. Why do I need to change it? It's possible that it will screw things up.

I'm suspicious. I'm fearful that MS will screw up my puter some how and force me into Vista. I don't want Vista yet, and won't get it until they have SP 2 out on it. I don't wanna release more disk space for updates, and I don't want unfinished product on my puter. So now I have automatic updates off, and get a message each time I start my computer saying that my computer might be vulnerable.

Are you Vista users getting this kind of thing too?

I do know one thing. Everytime you get an update, there goes another megabyte of disk space. You can't remove the update files, even though the dlls or exe's are patched. MS support told me this when I asked 'em where my disk space is going and what I can delete.

Thumbs Up  Yeah.. I drag my feet of some of those hyped "critical" updates too.  Just hate to take a chance when your system is running just fine.. then see everything stirred up for whatever purpose.

I finally switched over to IE 7..completely, got to liking some of the viewing improvements.  I have Firefox just in case something major goes wrong with IE.. never know anymore.  Looking around cautiously

I've given up on trying to "save" space... it's a losing battle..games are going over into GB's nowadays.  So I bit the bullet and find the biggest and fastest HDD's I can... sometimes it takes a month or to budget it in..but life's just too short to kick up a major fuss on such a trivial item that has the possibility of giving you a moment of relief of unnecessary worry.

Beyond Windows Updates...IMHO..At some point in a persons life.. you just have to identify what makes you happy and what is worthwhile to pursue.  It's the only way to balance out that which you cannot control..and this happiness becomes a source of strength, confidence, and reward.  So bigger HDD's ... or bigger headache..isn't a hard choice.   Smiley Blink

I've begun to read the knowledgebase articles associated with these updates before applying them.  Some of them might say something like... "this patch may make your cd or dvd drives inoperable until you get a patched driver from the manufacturer", it's these kinds of warnings that will prevent me from applying updates that could mess things up.  I've yet to get a cd or dvd drive driver in all the years of computering (well... maybe back in the days of dos I had cd drive drivers), and I really don't plan on starting now since things work fine for me.

I will be converting the old linux server (the one that used to host my forums websites) to a windows XP work station and use that exclusively for work purposes in which case I won't be so leary about applying patches or trying something different and unusual on my own PC.  As long as I have a stable computer to do my real life work I don't mind taking chances with my own gaming/work pc.

Smiley Blink  I agree  CB.. XP's updates sure try to force the WHOLE package off on a user.  I liked the way Win2000 /98 where you could select item by item.. XP makes it hard to segregate on the update site..  You have to go to each knowledgeBase logfile to lookup what is really being done.  IMHO MS conveniently is making it so AUTOmatic..your excluded from the opportunity to make the decision on anything ..  Kind of pushy..or seems that way to me.   Sticking Tongue Out
