The other day when I was at the St. Vincent de Paul's looking for dolls and what-nots for my papier mache, I picked up a teddy bear for 50 cents. It's a Harley Hog, a pig with overalls that has the Harley Davidson logo on it's overalls. It is really cute, and is in good shape. I bought it for Earl, my next door neighbor, whose birthday is today. I thought "this will suit that son-of-a-[*******]!"

Now, Earl is one of those guys that drives a nice, full sized pickup truck that he tends to like it's his baby. He has a collection of model cars, trucks, and motorcycles. Oh his walls are pin up girls. He is a he-man! He drinks likes Ernest Hemmingway, and smokes pot for breakfast. There ain't no sissy in him, no way... no how. He lives hard and plays hard. He makes $50k a year, and spends a great deal of it on whickey, pot, and beer. He's a machine operator. He cuts big, thick, metal parts for grain silos and rock crushers. He's a man's man! Or so he thought.

You shoulda seen him when I gave him this 50 cent stuffed animal! He fell in love with it! He's shown to his mother already (she lives here), and taken it to other neighbors too. He's gonna put it beside him in his truck. He says he's gonna let it drive.  He has not let go of it in 3 hours! He has come to my door twice to thank me for this, saying it's the best present he's ever gotten!  Yeah, he's a bit drunk, but he's very sincere.

I knew this would throw him, but I didn't realize how much. He's a changed man. What used to be tough and rugged is now soft and cuddly!  It's almost sickening.  Big Smiley Grin Laughing

Thumbs Up Well it seems to me that little Teddy did you both more than 50 cents worth of good.. just amazing isn't it?  Thanks for sharing this uplifting experience.

My neighbor has a bunch of bird houses... When the sun pops out, I'm starting to notice all the free serenading every morning...nice way to start one's day. Smiley Blink

That might be the best 50 cents I ever spent!

I see him tonight when he gets off work. We'll see if he's less the macho man!  Laughing

.... birdhouses....

Now, why'd you have to go and mention that? If I had a band saw and table saw (a skill saw might work), I'd like to try making those. See what you started? I wouldn't wanna make these outta papier mache 'cause they won't hold up in Oregon's weather, but given a shop, these would be fun to make!

Why you!  Big Smiley Grin Laughing I have no place for this equipment!!  See what you done to me?  Laughing

Wink Don't get all worked up over Birdhouses.. my neighbors makes enough of them to flood the market.  Besides, you and I know that those birds have built in schematics of their dream "nests" without any intervention from outside sources.  Laughing

Got the yard all trimmed up.now the weather guys says..moisture only near the coast..<sigh> well maybe I'll get some potted flowers out on the porch tomorrow.  Smiley Blink

Geez..watching the news..glad we don't get tornado's.. some awful casualties in the midwest.

Hope you've had some time in the Sun today..sure has been a nice day.   Big Smiley Grin Laughing
