« on: March 17, 2007, 10:31:42 AM »

So I was down at my local Target store the day before yesterday and picked up The Sims 2: Seasons expansion pack.

I forgot just how addictive the building of the houses can be in Sims 2.  I didn't go to bed until 3AM this morning because I was building a house with an interesting swimming pool.  I'll have to post some screenshots later today when I get home from the office.

I think seasons xpack is interesting, and would have been nice to have weather since day one but what ya gonna do.

The hardest part of building my own houses in sims 2 is putting the roofs on them, my houses are usually giant rectangles and when I put the auto roof on it, they come out looking absolutely huge and way too tall.

Im going to have to work on that part of the building.  I don't really play sims to play with the characters but more to build the houses which I find fascinating.

I need to find some good *free* sites that hold objects since I've long since lost all my addons for the game as well as my links to good free sites.  There is so many talented people that are playing Sims2, it's amazing what they come up with in regards to their own objects or even just recolors of other peoples work.

Big Smiley Grin Laughing  Great to see you are "playing" something you enjoy and can glean a moment of relaxation CB..

The Sims is played by other members of the family.  Sadly I play those types of games that consume great amounts of time.. EU3..for instance;  so I've never had a real chance to give Sims a go.

Play on.. have fun!!   Smiley Blink

There's an in -game cheat to let you scale down the roofs CB, I
found this on the net
Quote:
Full auto-roof often results in ugly rooflines .... but here is an 'easy'
way to do roofs, that often looks pretty good:
First, put in the major block of roof, using the roofing tool. Good
starters is a long run with a gable roof, or a full block with a hip roof.
Or maybe you have a particular place you want an octagonal roof or
other special roof.
Press the 'lock roof' key. Then use one of the autoroof selections...
if it looks ok, great. If not, do the 'undo' and try another auto-roof
selection. This try-undo, allows you to look at a lot of options fairly
quickly. And usually at least one is suitable.
The other thing to keep in mind is that the default roof slope is
seldom 'perfect'. Use: roofslopeangle xx, wherexx= 15-75. I
normally set my to 25 for 'trying out' -- it has enough pitch to get a
good idea of how things are going to intersect without
overwhelming most houses. Once I get my roofline set as
described above, I try a few variations on the slope. Ultra-modern
often look best with very shallow angles -- try 15-20. Victorians
usually look best with slopes in the 30-45 range. Contemporary
houses often work in the 25-35 range. Those are generalities only
-- great ultra modern with steep roof and Victorians with shallow
roof are possible.
Unquote:
To bring up the cheat console press CTRL+SHIFT+C

then type in the cheat you want to use,

This may help you with roofs, and I think there are new roof tools
now, I always use the auto roof because I've never mastered the
manual way. here is the link to the full thread,

I admire your high knowledge concerning The Sims2 Sandra   Thumbs Up

There is also a tool called  "SimPE"  that lets you change things in very
many respects. Pretty advanced but allot is easy to understand.....

Sandra? Is there a version of  SimPE  that works with the Seasons add-on  Questioning

About sites going pay sites. I think it depends on the "mentality" of probably
young people making the stuff for sims2.

Even in the free sites it's obvious that people "Playing, Acting" as if they was
running an International Business LOL  Big Smiley Grin Laughing Big Smiley Grin Laughing Big Smiley Grin Laughing

I've seen many sites that's given me a laugh for sure  Laughing

The ones that sort of bother me (re other object sites) are the people that say, "You may NOT use this mesh as a base for your own objects bla bla bal" and in the next sentance they say, "This object was based on the Maxis bla bla bla object".

This is exactly the kind of sentences that I mean (paradoxes) and things...
But I take it lightly, gives me a good laugh now and then.

Actually I can't see any money being made on a Pay Site for sims2!?

I would never put in money and work for opening such a site...

Money is often made with New and "unusual" ideas Today  Thumbs Up

I will PM you CB if I crack an idea that's good   Thumbs Up Wink

I can't take credit for that UC it's all other peoples work,  Agreed Happy

Yes I've already got Simpe, sometimes I recolour stuff, but that's as far as I've got with it, but a very useful tool, there isn't a new Simpe yet, they say they're going to update it as soon as possible for Seasons, so that's good news,
It's funny but with"Sims 1" I used to use all the hack tools out there and really make major changes in my game, but with "Sims 2" I don't seem to want to Big Smiley Grin Laughing

Well Sandra I think it's the 3D in sims2 that makes it harder to
make major changes in the Game  Smiley Blink

But go ahead and try, only thing that can happen is that the game
crashes or wont start...... so remember to have a backup  Wink

And reinstalling the Sims 2 takes only Hmm ... 35 seconds  Big Smiley Grin Laughing Big Smiley Grin Laughing

Usch honestly it's a pain in the butt to reinstall it  Looking around cautiously Flaming Mad

I know I'm gonna regret this but---I've only had to reinstall once, and then it wasn't really necessary, I just wanted to start afresh, with Sims 1 my PC was always crashing, and I had to reinstall frequently (but as I said I made a lot of changes) so that was probably the reason, I  think Sims 2 is much more stable Agreed Happy
so no--- I won't be fiddling with the files just yet Big Smiley Grin Laughing

I've heard that if you build a church in Sims 2 the game can go crazy  Laughing

It will display signs like "Game Over" and such...

There is a way around this, don't put a cross on top of the tower  Looking around cautiously
You must place a  Roaster  instead  Big Smiley Grin Laughing Big Smiley Grin Laughing

Must be that  Will Wright  is completely atheist, anyway it's strange  Sweathing from thinkng hard

That made me think of my father who was a piano tuner. But he also repaired
church-organs...
I've heard him .... talk about swearing in church  Big Smiley Grin Laughing Big Smiley Grin Laughing

When the priest heard him and complained about his language, he answered
"Who the H*** are you?"...

He was one of a kind for sure  Laughing
