Try NSAIDs. You can get Naproxen Sodium over the counter, and it is very effective. But, NO DRINKING, or you'll end up with an ulcer and THAT is no fun (not at all).

Vicodan is addictive. So is Oycodone and Hyrdrocodone. Naproxen Sodium has no addictive qualities, and it seems MORE effective than these two.

heh heh. i got these doctor's confused. They did a cat scan on my head and didn't find NUTHIN'!  Big Smiley Grin Laughing

CB, I'm very sorry that the voice recognition didn't take care of your CTS. So getting the  surgery done is your best bet at this point (living with pain is not a good option). Good your Mom will pay for it, as anything medical is so expensive these days. Lots of forum members coming up with medication advice (I know they are trying to help) but listen your doctor - he knows you and what you need best.
Let us know when the surgery is scheduled, I will be praying for you.
BTW, having one done at a time is good (just in case ...) even tho it lengthens the healing time.

Update:

I went to the Dr yesterday...

I asked that he prescribe me something non narcotic for pain medication.  He gave me something called Ultram ER and said to take up to 3 of them when I get up in the morning along with 2 extra strength tylenols.  Then take 2 more tylenol every 4 to 6 hours as needed.

He said if that is inefective then to use the other pills which he gave me.  They are Tylenol 4 with codeine.  Well the ultram and tylenols sort of work, they take away the basic pain but not the extreme pain when it happens which fortunately isn't all the time but happens when I use my hands, and I guess happen to hit a couple different positions with them.

I've tried the tylenol 4 first because I've tried codeine in the past and it almost always made me feel dopey and slightly nauscious.  Well, apparently it still does.  But is more effective then the Ultram and Tylenol.

He said if the Tylenol 4 isn't enough then I have no option but to get on something like vicodin or norco.  But I think I can live with the ultram and or tylenol for now.

He's given me a referral to the CTS surgeon and that dr should be calling me sometime next week to setup our first meeting.  My doctor said that the surgeon specialist will probably want to try to treat my wrists with non surgical methods first.  Ummm.... Like that hasn't been tried dozens of times in the past 15 years or so...  But Im all for trying one more time before getting the surgery.

He's also referred me to get a colonostopy??  The thing where you have to flush out your system then they stick a camera inside of you to check on your colon.  I've not had one of these before and am now 41 and they say that it's good to get at 40 years old and if there are no polyps then every 10 years after, otherwise every 1 to 2 years if they do find any polyps.  The reason he is suggesting this is that for the past 3 years or more, I feel full all the time.  I can eat a normal sized bowl of cereal or two pices of toast for breakfast and I feel like it's backed up to my chest, and even though I get hungry later, I always feel like I am stuffed, as well as my stools are not normal sized stools, and since I've suffered with diverticulitus in the past he thinks its a good idea to get the colon exam to ensure 1. there are no polyps and 2. there isn't a blockage and 3. that the colon is working properly.

So now I just wait till the two doctors offices call me next week to setup the apointments.

So that's it in a giant nutshell.

If anyone has any experience with the colon test, let me know how bad it is...  Samantha's father had it recently and he told her somewhat about it but he left out any details that he felt would either be too embarrasing to talk about or not right to tell his daughter.

Well my Mother have done that colonostopy 4-5 times, and she says
it's nothing to worry about. It's worse when going trough the mouth
and they have a look inside the stomach.....

I'm happy I don't know any "technical" ways of how this is done  Laughing
If I did this would be one disgusting and/or funny post  Big Smiley Grin Laughing

Hey CB.. I've been through this "procedure".. if you are into medical tech..you might be amused.  It definitely will humble your ego ..best to think logically past all that..I know I had to, and now I have a more "relaxed" vision of the whole process.

I did spend quite a bit of time on WebMD..just considering how everything is performed..and actually the "equipment" is fascinating.. like I said earlier the tech is amazing.  I won't go into detail on a public forum, but I encourage you to read up and maybe it'll help..  It is important to get these things done..we want you healthy you know.

Keep your courage up CB!!   Smiley Blink
