WOOOT! Okay, I got damn impatient and CANCELLED my EU3 order from Paradox direct and bought it at BestBuy...So I have it....

I will NOT be playing for a bit for two very important reasons.

1:  I am on EPHESUS.  I WILL beat it and I'm so close!  I'm just waiting for the hammer (earthquake to fall!).  So I have a Caesar IV campaign to finish first....

2: I WILL COMPLETELY read the manual first...and OH SWEET MERCY what a manual!

Note to ALL game developers...see EU3 manual...THAT is a manual!

I opened it and almost went into 'manual apoplexy!'

I will use this thread to post periodic impressions, etc., and invite any who have/are playing this to join in and run with it!

ha CB!!!  I'll be bumbling my way through this one for quite a while before I get the hang of it....yargh!

I'm 30 pages into the manual...a textbook example of how a manual should be made!

My first tip of the day?  If you're just learning the game, pick a country to start that is smallish (3 or 4 provinces) and tucked away in the middle of nowhere!  Use your first campaign as a simple learning tool, getting used to how things work...DON'T attack anyone for a while!  Build your base people!!!

later,

Smiley Blink Well I played Portugal..and for six hours held my own.  I did have problems with Morocco, but I seemed to have a flawed way of creating a large naval fleet.  Good thing I can cross the Gibralter Straits without a transport...just never really win/conquer for any length of time.<grumble>

Mm? pat..did you catch the manual pages discrepancies..trade isn't on page 66..but on 64..diplomatic info isn't on p72..but on 69.  Quick reference..probably not.. thorough   definitely yes... good thing I have enhanced memory traits. Sticking Tongue Out

I certainly value your insight..please as soon as you can tell me how to keep my Ruler alive and make enough cash to buy those expensive Universities..hehe  I'd like to type j/k..but as I see it..please tell me...soon as you can. Laughing

[grinn]the game is classic in its intricacies!

Well, as soon as I can beat Ephesus (and what ever lay beyond that!) I'll get it started...that and read the manual...BIG BOOK!

I have begun!  As Portugal (easy to start, just to get a feel for the game...).  I knocked off Caesar IV's last two Empire campaigns (economic) with ease after getting through Ephesus!

I LOVE the depth of governmental control you have here...

My plan is to play Portugal out for a while to 'learn' the game and then move on to my goal for the game!  To turn Scotland into a world power!!!!

I can't even imagine trying to turn scotland into a world power in EU3 or even EU2 for that matter.

I've started a game as Venice since it's got a trade center, but havn't gotten very far at all yet.

oh CB venice is a b**** to get going!  So much turmoil around it!  What I like about Portugal is it has a trade center and you can explore!  Good way to get a feel for everything in the game....

But Scotland, man, that is a challenge BUT doable!  I got up to #3 over the course of 200 years in EU2...now methinks it will be much harder to do that in EU3...but first Portugal!
