I've been getting a slew of emails the last 2 days that have attachements to them, the attachment is usually called something like readmore.exe

My avast antivirus isn't alerting me to anything with it, (but I don't click on it, I just delete the emails with the attachments) but in general when I start to get a bunch of emails from strangers that have the same attachment, Im pretty sure it's a virus thats tryiing to spread around the net.

So be safe and don't click on them.

I get about 500 emails a day between work and Mother having to forward every blasted thing she gets.

Of those, my junkmail box grabs over 475 per day and flushes them. Needless to say I have never been bothered by viruses in attachments.

It also is good to have your own mail server and flush things not specifically addressed down the black hole before they even hit your box!

I had to drop one of my email accounts on one of my domain names that I've had for about 8 or 9 years now because it was bringing in more than 1000 junk mail spam a day, and I finally got tired of downloading all of that garbage every morning.

Im still trying to find a good spam blocker for my outlook express but may just go with the Firefox mail client pretty soon since the last time that I used it, the junk mail system worked reasonably well.  Or I may take the plunge and spend the $39.99 down at the local staples to purchase one of the junkmail blockers that are sold there in the store.  I think theres about 2 or 3 products that they sell.  Though I always prefer free stuff.

Most of the junkmail that I get is specifically addressed to one of my email accounts so even if I blocked stuff on the server that wasn't specifically addressed to me, I'd still end up with a ton of junkmail.

My personal ISP account email address just last week started bringing in junkmail, which is a shame because it's been a good email that hasn't had hardly any junkmail for the past 2 1/2 years.

I must have used it somewhere unsecure and some bots probably picked up on it and put me on some spam lists.

Thumbs Up Thanks for the heads up CB  It's situations like this that made me handle my email seperate from any of my personal PC's.  I have too many attachment horror stories..I'm sure you are likewise familiar with..so won't elaborate.

Call me paranoid..but if you want to send me an attachment you need to send me a decription first..that's the only way, everything else is automatically deleted.

I've been getting those too. No way do I open them!

And I dunno why it is, but lately I've been inundated with ads for penny stocks. I have not been to any financial web sites. I don't even look in my online banking acct, for fear of seeing how sorry my arse really is. So, why am I getting this stuff? I get duplicates and tripilcates of these -- different sender, same text inside. So lately, I've been thinking I need to change both of my email addresses. I get 45 spams a day, sometimes more. Why I oughtta....

Common spam Lengo, I've been getting them for a couple years now, they always show up in some other email account of mine that gets spammed to death with penny stocks, and viagra adverts.

Sometimes whats happening with these stock spams is that someone is trying to get people to buy up the stock and move it artificially.  I can remember of one case where I received a bunch of the stock information spams in my email in just one weeks time, so I decided to go and check out the company in question online and found out that the governing stock exchange board (whom ever that was) had put a hold on their stock and none could be sold or bought pending final investigation as to whether or not it was the company itself that was sending out the spam mail.
