My dad told me this when I was quite young and it turned me into the optimist (most of the time).

There were two brothers about 8 years old.

They each had their own rooms in the house and one day they came home to find their dad standing outside their bedroom doors, and he said to them, "I have a suprise for you both in your rooms".

The boys entered their rooms to find them filled half way to the ceiling with horse manure.  After about 30 minutes the dad went in to each boys room to check up on them.

One of the brothers was in his room sulking and cursing his father for filling his room with horse manure, he was ranting and raving about how disgusting this was.  The father got a small grinn on his face and went to the other boys room to check up on him.

When he opened the door to the other boys room he found the little tyke hooping and a hollering and throwing the horse manure all over the place, he was digging tunnels throughout the room in the manure.

The dad got a bigger grinn on his face and asked the boy what in the world he was doing.  To this the boy responded: "With all of this horse manure in here, there has to be a pony somewhere"

Ever since my dad told me this I've been more of a glass half full instead of half empty sort of person.

Which one are you?

The glass isn't half full OR half empty...it's just too damned big! Big Smiley Grin Laughing

Thumbs Up I'm probably considered an optimist..but like to be viewed as a realist.  With the perils of aging..I've had to face too many "realities"..so the tone of my outlook has been readjusted to fit the circumstance. Sticking Tongue Out

Hey!! I still buy really "buggy" games..I'm either an optimist or a real sucker for bad games..I'd hate to be labeled the latter. Laughing

OK laugh!!..what's everyone else's excuse..I'd like to hear them.

EXACTLY!  Agreed Happy

I guess I'm more of an optimist. I'm perhaps too cheerful at times, and downright silly, but that's better than being a bitter old man. I'd rather be the sweet fool. ANd remarkably, things do work out better this way. At least your're happier.

Read up on cognitive thinking. This helped me quite a bit. It doesn't sink in all that rapidly, and it's more of a means to an end than the end itself.

Read up on transactional analysis. This teaches you how to be reasonable with others, then reasonable with yourself.

I thnkin those two things have been the biggest influences in my life. However, I didn't get around to them until I was in my thirties. But I'm glad I read up on this stuff. It helps cure all kinds of mental illness, and makes you a much more rounded person.

There are distinct advantages to seeing the glass half full. With some cognitive therapy (hey, just read a book), your life will be much better!

But, I still hae bouts of major depression. I mean, so dark there seems to be no hope. This indeed is an illness. When these happen, all I tell myself is that it will pass. And it does! If it didn't, I probably woulda kilt myself a long time ago.

Google 'cognitive thinking'. It will make your life much better if get an understanding of how you undermine your life. It makes you happier, and the people around you happier.

Mental health does not come in a bottle. Anti-depressants are a waste of money and put your health in jeopardy too. Real strength is knowing how to think! That's the ticket.

Now, that'll be $100 for this session. Would you like to make an appointment for next week?  Big Smiley Grin Laughing

THE DOCTOR IS IN! (but outta his mind).  Laughing

Wink  Ah Hah Lengo!!  Any good solid advice toward acquiring a more stable mental health can't be ignored.  Hopefully it'll work for me...scarey getting older and less apt to jump to conclusions yet more prone to forget what would start the whole process in the first place.

I'm a natural health advocate..so very few items come in bottles.  I take vitamins in the best form I can find them..and I suppose my intake of caffeine is as determental as it gets.  The best advice I ever seriously took..was in a word..moderation...which allows me to partake in those lovely adult beverages every now and then.  Life would be very sterile if I didn't have some sort of out for these very small indulgences. natural health advocate

Mmm?  no I'm not "nuts"..thought most of the nut family of foods is a good source of "natural" ingredients our human bodies use for our health betterment.  Every individual has their own particular food ( ie: things we ingest for continued life support) needs..food that would maintain that persons optimal health condition. Few actually realize what their parameters truly are..so we  see the range of people from anorexia to obese with the health issues that go with the condition.  So I'm a natural health advocate..because I see so many people stricken with "un-natural health"  just because they eat improper foods.  The phrase.."you are what you eat"..comes to mind.

Hope that clarifies my point.. Smiley Blink

I'm hoping you are teasing me again...as I can't fathom anyone saying that as serious conjecture. Wink

Looking around cautiously Whew!!  That's a relief...I had my fingers crossed.  I had some smoked chicken with a pasta pesto sauce...which included steamed broc and zuchinni.  Nice colorful and very tasty dish.  I have to pass on dessert when I eat that..lots of calories, so now I'm home with my popcorn and beverage.

I'll be playing after the news ... fun with RRT3..can't miss Sticking Tongue Out

One of these days we will have the last laugh. All of those fools out there watching their weight, smoking, alcohol and caffeine intake and exercising their butts off will die anyway! Of nothing at all!
