Looking around cautiously Insurance at my age isn't a "favorite" topic.  Personally I think the Dr's are all over the map on pricing their services..and no workable way to regulate that part of the subject...and not play russian roulette with their service quality.

I do feel that future generations are faced with some hard times.  They may have to bankrupt the government just to force general medical services for the normal wage earner.  Only the rich will be able to afford quality care...as has been the case throughout the ages.  Company who attempt to provide health care will at some point not be able to continue..just because of the unregulated prices the Drs will charge.  So the sage will continue... makes me weary just to think abouit.

I don't think insurance for everyone is the right answer. I think that price caps are in order. Having insurance for everybody will only cause a doctor shortage, and provide justifcation for the industry to raise prices even higher due to scarcity of service. Furthermorme, insurance doesn't gaurantee medical care. It only insures that the doctors get paid. Being seen doesn't mean that you'll get properly treated.

Yeah, it makes me weary. It also makes me angry.

Eleven states are considering legislation to get everyone on insurance roles.   This is folly. They should be considering legislation to get people proper medical care, not insurance!

Temporarily yes, I think it would alleviate some major problems for people.  But in the long term I think that only price capping will do.

It still amazes me that providers will often charge more to an insurance carrier then they would to a patient.

I remember my hospital stay a few years ago with no insurance.  The initial bill was a little over $20,000 for 5 days stay in the hospital, once they found out that I didn't have insurance the bill came down to about $11,000 (which I never paid and was finally cleared in a bankruptcy that I had to go through).  So if they could cap the price AND everybody had insurance then we might be cooking with butter.

But more than anything I'd like to see car insurance be provided by taxing our gas, then we would know that anyone that drives in the state is covered to some degree.  The current system is bogus.  You have to show proof of insurance to get your vehicle registered in california.  So what a lot of people end up doing (because they can't really afford to keep full insurance on their cars) is to pay out the $145.00 for the first months premium so that they can show proof of insurance then they don't pay the monthly premium and get dropped, then they repeat the same thing the next time they need to get their car registered.

I know of people that take their car insurance cards, scan them into their computer, and photoshop the numbers around to make the card show that the insurance is valid for the whole year even though it's not.  It wont get them out of trouble if they are in an accident, but it will keep them out of immediate trouble if they are pulled over for a moving violation since the cops don't have the ability to know whats real or whats fake on many of the insurance carriers.

GOOD NEWS, GUV'NOR!

I'm not sure if I got this right, 'cause I only got a headline on the news. But m'thinks I heard that some senators are asking for price caps! This was toninght on the local news. It got interrupted becasue my neighbor flipped the channel, so I'm not entirely certain of what I heard. However, this may be the start of something big! I CERTAINLY HOPE SO!
