 Hello and Welcome nickont

Thanks for the new years wishes!!

I have a new USB data storage drive, works really great.  I also try to keep my systems in good shape. I placed some liquid cooling in my game PC recently..it's my first experience with it..so I watch it very closely.  So far it seems to doing a great job..my CPU temps use to reach as high a 50C..now they rarely go over 40C.  That's what I had hoped for.. Laughing and paid for..hehe

Hope all's well with you so far this year. Smiley Blink

Hmmmm, I'd be worried about putting liquid cooling in my computer because the CPU already runs between 75 and 87f at idle, so add liquid cooling and I might just freeze it up  Laughing

Happy 2007 to all, and I hope all get what they want out of this new year.

Thumbs Up CB Looks like your rigs are sufficiently cooled.  I just had to try it..most of my boxes stay acceptably cool at idle..certain games can raise the threshold after awhile.. a normal occurance.

The one thing I didn't appreciate is the lack of forthought in the design (to fit)..had to make sure the case had the correct diminsions so everything "plumbed" in correctly.  IMHO I don't think I'll pursue this cooling again ..unless it is a dire necessity. Sticking Tongue Out

I had to upgrade my case about a little over a month ago because everything wouldnt fit in the box that I wanted to have in it and it was getting so hot in that tiny little box and the only option was to stick one 120mm fan on the side of the case which didnt do much because it's a side door that has all the little holes drilled in it so even with the old AMD 64 3500+ CPU in it, it was always running at about 137f

This new case is a much better design.  It's got a 120mm fan on the front with a filter and another one on the rear to exhaust the hot air (which is never hot), and it's got five 3.5" drive bays on the side of the case facing the door for easy access and another five 5.25" drives on the front as well as 2 3.5" drives on the front.

I've finally put 3 of the 4 hard drives into their own swappable boxes that also have mini fans to help cool them down as well, though I don't really know how effective it is, but it sure does look cool on the front of the computer.

But best of all is that there is lots of space inside the case for all the cables, so they aren't crammed in tight anymore and no longer cutting down on circulation.  It's a massive case that sits on my desktop and I did prefer the smaller case that the computer came in, but if I want the good cooling and ease of part replacement then this was really the only option (to go with a tower case).  Although it's not nearly as big as the servers cases in the other room, those monsters are huge (getting quite old now too) at about 2 and a half feet tall .

Wink  It an everyday routine for me..fiddling with my collection of PCs.  Always need to run maintenance utilities..the basic performance stuff.  No servers..or "real" one.. with six boxes on my Lan..the most dependable usually gets the call. Sticking Tongue Out  They are are basically the same config..just seems like one always endures the stress better.

I keep my cooling fans clean and have extras in case of "noise" or outright failure. I prefer my CPU's to be cool as possible..it's just ol habits at work.  Remember those silicon waffle irons..called Cyrix... Big Smiley Grin Laughing never used them, but they sure made lots of headaches for the tech community.

My desktop unit puts out terrible noise.  If I try to use the cordless phone held to my left ear (the desktops on my left side) then I get terrible pops and what not.

I just bought my first cell phone and didn't realize that the computer was causing havoc with it, I layed the cell phone on my desk right in front of the computer and apparently when I do this, I lose all reception and everybody gets my voice mail because of it.

Questioning Ummm?  That's strange.. are you using a wireless net service..?  I have my cell by or on my desk all the time.  I truly hate voicemail..and text messaging, it's not my choice of "converstation" at all.  Emergency??...well maybe. hehe.

Btw..my cell doesn't have the photo ability either.  I use it to make Dr. appointments and talk to my family..the rest of my communication connection is email.  Plus it should be pretty obvious I like to "gab" with fellow CB players  <dooh>  Sticking Tongue Out

Nope, it's a wired connection though we do have a wireless network here at home (gotta play my MMORPG when it's 80f outside and Im out by the pool) on my laptop.  Though I havn't use the wireless part of our network for the past 8 months as it was too hot in the summer and now too cold.

When I put the cell phone on the right side of my desk I always ahve 5 "bars" in the reception area, but on the left side of my desk I have no bars and when I move the cell phone somewhere else I invariably get a message telling me that I "missed" a call.

Oh well.... Now I've learned to keep it on the right side of the desk or in the bathroom as for some reason the bathroom gives me really good reception in my home.

Questioning Hmmm?  Well I have wireless mice/KB's on most of my PC's..should've bought stock in Logitech heh?  Right now, I have my cell and I'm watching the signal/bat indicators and they arren't flucuating.  I do know that the microwave seems to interfer..when I mentioed it to my cell provider they said that was "normal".

What else do you have activated around your desktop..?  I'm thinking that a UPS might, since it could emit (battery charging tranformer signals) if inshielded ..<shrug> maybe something in that order.. Maybe we can solve this "mystery".  kinda fun to pursue these lil quirks of our techy exposure.  One of my nephews just got credit and a patent for a dinky lil RF connector..it'll be used in every communication device made..on earth and in space..until something else comes along.

I agree about the weather..too many extremes.  We're freezing..presently.  Sticking Tongue Out starting to get cabin fever.  Actually need to get out and restock my "necessities"..hate rationing my fav. beverages ..it's just not right. Laughing
