Looking around cautiously Read on Gamespot that Steam forum accounts had been hacked last Sunday and Steam weren't sure if accounts had been affected. Checked on Steam most of this week and no notification has been posted. Checked immediately to see if I'd left my card number (last four digits) on the account details but luckily had deleted after last purchase. Its worrying because most of us have large game collections on Steam which could become vulnerable.

I use their forum but have not signed up to it.

Will have to wait on developments.

Damn Mac, thx for the note...you'd think, of all the people, steam would be more careful, but hackers be some gifted folks, too...

Still scary Smiley Blink!

At least they stored our passwords salted, which from what I've read means they take your password (let's say it's 'cat') then add their own password to it, so it becomes something like 'cat235qwlzkdfjh9325'.  Therefore the hacker needs to both crack the full password and the actual user's password.  Something like that anyway.

I heard that with sony that they didn't even bother encrypting data, rather it was stored on a notepad like thing.. I am wondering if this will affect me in any way, I hacven't used my credit card on steam for half a year now, even then I don't store the credit card data.. Am assuming they won't get diddly-squat of mine.
