Questioning Anyone thinking of giving this title a whirl - A Game of Thrones: Genesis based on the book and TV series. Its grand strategy and RTS and is coming out on the 29th of September.

Most places including Steam want £29.99 for it but last time I looked Amazon UK were doing it at £17.00 on pre-order, so I might just dive in. I'd rather wait and see though because I seem to have bought too much expensive crap this year from impulse buying, when I normally wait and read the reviews, some people seem suspicious that this title has come out too quickly after the TV series and may not have received the necessary time in development.

I am thinking of getting it, but I'm waiting to see some let's plays on youtube so that I know how the game mechanics work and make sure it's not one of those games that just ride on the hype of a book and TV shows as theres been all too many of them.

Well I took the plunge and preordered it and Amazon emailed to say it has been dispatched, so should receive it today or tomorrow and will give it a workout over the weekend and if you like will post my impressions. I'm not expecting miracles but a decent game for a change would be nice, I can't remember the last time I said Wow! about a new game.

The other night I was looking at trailers for the forthcoming Anno 2070 (and I know Pad11's feelings on it and commiserate with him as it is an unheralded deviation from their usual output) but hell - the artwork looked really good and the idea once you get used to it isn't bad either, providing it doesn't get too preachy, I'm sick of all the Liberal fluffy bunnies and tree huggers too.
So I'm warming towards it, especially as I'm in no great hurry for Stronghold 3, like Tropico 4, there simply isn't enough new material to call it a new number - an expansion -yes. So will await the price drop.

I must have missed a conversation around here.

WOW.  I just watched the trailers for Anno 2070, at first I thought it was just a joke, then I realized they are serious.  But really, I'm warm to the idea of totally new gameplay in an Anno game at this point.  It looks pretty impressive to me.

Anyway, yes I'ed love to hear your impressions about agotg after you've had time to play it.

I almost pulled the trigger on purchasing it today but opted to get Sengoku, though now I'm wondering if my purchase was the correct one as I sit at the main game screen looking for something to do.

 Smiley Blink
Well its early days yet and I'm still plodding through the Tutorial so I'll reserve comment on it for later but at the moment I'm quietly pleased with it. The visuals aren't mind blowing, but are pleasing and do the job, the interface is OK but the main thing is, it has great depth and remains true to the author's concepts and corners haven't been cut to appease the casual gamer.

Initially I wasn't sure about it because I for one are not particularly fond of the campaign mode in the likes of the Total War series and Civilisation is an absolute turn off for me, but the strategy in this from the little I've seen has more appeal because there is so much going on and in Real Time too, perhaps too much once the various spies, rogues and assassins have been infiltrated, alliances made and broken - and the actual RTS battles could be an anti-climax, have to see.

In the meantime I googled for a game review and came up with a rather nice site which gave a pretty fair appraisal

http://deltagamer.com/17433/

Funny I was going to buy Sengoku but then read the review and could tell it wasn't for me as its another grand strategy map done on a geographic map like Risk, but its more your thing and I hope you enjoy it

On another point I read in another thread that you found a certain City Planner game a bit lite because there was no traffic control, ie traffic lights - well on one of my explorations I saw in a catalogue just such a title. There was an element of city planning but the main aim of the game was traffic management, with working traffic lights - the whole caboodle. I'll look it up for you if you want
