Your problems seems to be a common one. Many people make the same mistake: They jump in and comment before seeking more information.

You can Google any bill number. Many link will turn up, but usually within the first five results is a report on the Bill's progress, and possibly this is from the library of Congress. No matter where the progress report comes from, you can find what's going on with it. It takes only a handful of minutes. 'Tis better to be educated than guess, or you might waste the same amount of time giving your email address to someone for no reason at all by signing a petition and adding your own comment, or by commenting on old news at YouTube because the poster didn't remove the ancient news.

Get informed. Being educated is your first line of defense. Beware of petitions. Beware of old news. You can easily avoid these pitfalls by opening a new tab and searching for the Bill. If the Bill is alive, 'tis better to write your congressmen than sign a petition. Signatures on a petition do less than a flood of emails do. And you can't be sure that by signing a petition, that the petition will reach the House or the Senate, or the true goal of the petitioner! You can't count on people who create such petitions, or those who speak out with a YouTube video. Beware of lazy people. Be informed or you might get trapped in a ruse, and these come in many disguises. Count only on yourself! Get informed! It's easier than you think!
