I may have said this before, but from a pure 'city builder' standpoint with graphics taken into consideration, I find this game pretty hard to top in terms of replayability.  I've logged well over 200 hours on it and am back playing it again, doing the scenarios in the Venice add on for the FIRST TIME.  I love this thing, and again, it makes me SAD and angry as to what they're doing w/ Anno 2700....

This thing rocks.

Well said pat. Smiley Blink But I have to say, Anno 1701 is very good too. The expansion for it is okay but the original game is very good and the water graphics keep on getting better!

Agreed Seron!  I have 1701 Gold on my PC still and frankly, am interested in revving it back up too!  I think there are subtle differences between 1701 and 1404 besides the graphics and those differences really do make them very different to play!  Which, again, has me weeping inside about 2700!  Crying

later,
pat!

Absolutely Pat! The differences made the two seperate games both worth buying instead of just buying one which I have done with so many other series.

Moridin, it's the whole Climate Change/Global Warming pseudo science crap that really has me put off by the new product.  Such a sad, heavy handed way to alienate 70% of the gaming public all in the hopes of appealing to...what?  I couldn't even imagine...But as I said, Related/Ubi have done such a great job with this series that I feel I owe them the purchase...but I imagine once all the false science, judgemental anti-intellectual garbage and politics starts spewing out of the game, I'll play it for an hour or two and then it will be shelved....and I'll be back to Anno 1404!  Which is fine I guess, since 1404 Venice is just so damned good!

I think pat said a lot of it but the Anno 2070 also seems to have dropped some of the subtle changes and factors that made  Anno 1404 and 1701 have such rich gameplay and large replay value. The game does seem to have some interesting gameplay options and paths but it seems to have lost some of the rich gameplay the orginal series had so well.
