Right now I'm struggling w/ the massive fight right AFTER you shoot the ballista (and yes, that took about six tries Big Smiley Grin Laughing)...everytime I go to aid that douchebag king i jump into the middle of the forray and am destroyed in seconds!  And the game is a bit 'jerky'...

later,

Make sure to turn off a couple options or turn them to low if that's the lowest setting.

I turned off the I can't remember the right wording, SSOA or something like that, I also turned shadows to either off or low, shadows was the biggest hog and ubersampling to off, that's another huge hog, and then it's been pretty smooth.

So, you're at the point up on the top of the castle where you face the opposing king and you have the brief dialog with him and then you either...

1 Fight him alone
2. Fight him and his men
3. Talk it out

I guess by dumb luck I managed to get the option to only have to fight the one king himself, which indeed got me down to about 1/20th health when he finally died.

Remember to use all your signs, you have access to all of them from the beginning if I'm not mistaken and they really turn the tides of battles rather well.

I am really enjoying the game so far, put about 11 hours and am only about 1 hour into the game... after getting to the first city, I decided that I did't want to kill the knight, but rather spare him and his men on top of the castle, so I started over - I am also spending a lot of time just enjoying the sights (Triss :P - but seriously the graphics are great!).  The story is pretty enjoyable, but the controls/fighting is a big change from last game.  I have read that this game is meant to be played with a controller, and when played with one, fighting and movement feels a lot smoother.  I think I am going to wait until I get the wireless adapter for my computer so I can just use the xbox controllers I already have before I continue playing.

Oh and concerning the nudity, some of my favorite quotes are along the lines of this:
As long as I have a sword or weapon and am killing guys with tons of blood, guts, and gore, its alright.  You can see a man get decapitated or stabbed through the heart... but god forbid you see a tit!

I was going to check it out with my controller, but the batteries were dead so it's on the charger now.  I don't know that it will help me as I'm notoriously uncoordinated with my xbox controller, but I'll give it a shot if it makes the fighting mechanics feel more natural and easier to use for me.

I did download MA2 for free when I bought DA2, played about 15 minutes...just wasn't my thing...seemed awkward to me...

As for TW2, still not sure I like it yet...I will say this...the tutorial is the most awfully intrusive, linear vile piece of schleck I've ever had to force myself thru...it cannot be over soon enough...once it's done, i'll have a better idea if I'm going to finish this thing Smiley Blink

ADDITION:  Okay, I've just landed on the boat AND STILL THIS GAME WON'T OPEN UP.  Seriously, when IF EVER am I going to be able to make my own damned decision, calm the hell down and try to at least explore ONE of the f-ing options this game is said to have?  Now I have to follow Triss (who is still BLAZINGLY HOT!) and Roche to the square to watch an execution...am I ever EVER going to stop having to go from point A to point B or is this the entire game?  Wizaerd, you've played a bit, can you tell me now so I don't waste any more time?

I literally ripped my headphones off this morning and threw them on my glass desk, woke my oldest son up  Big Smiley Grin Laughing because I swore so loud! Big Smiley Grin Laughing Big Smiley Grin Laughing  Frustratingly linear...even worse than the first and i thought this was supposed to be more open?

Geez I want to like this, graphically its stunning, the writing itself is good and the voice acting is OUTSTANDING but holy linear crap!  Suprised

Not linear at all past the execution in my opinion, from there on the quests all have their own choices... some of the main quests, you just have to play along but the side quests are completely open, but the way you go about the main quest seems pretty open too.

CB: concerning MA2: I loved it, I can't wait for MA3!!

Thanks Crowebird, sorry about that mis-ID in my previos post Looking around cautiously !  Okay, so I'm almost there...if I can get through this execution scene I can take some time and look around then.. that's good...this has been the most long, drawn out intro/tutorial I've ever played...crikey!  Anyway, thanks a ton...now I'm hopeful again! Agreed Happy

ADDITION:  Okay, YES!  After the execution (and using CBs advice to disable ubersampling and that OCSS or whatever the hell it was - plus upping shadows back to medium instead of low!) I am very much pleased!  not only does the game open up and calm down, but NOW I have time to really appreciate the interface, the care and work put into the simple things like the inventory, etc.  There is a lot of detail into the mechanics of this game as well as its overall feel and work...very nice.  I'm pleased...and now I've got ZERO stuttering...

I know you didn't necessarily ask for my opinion, but I'm one of the people that disliked what they did to MA2.  MA1, with the exception of the MAKO vehicle (which I hated), I was immensely fond of.  Played through it a couple of times.  However, MA2 was sheer and utter crap.  I hated it, and was completely disillussioned with the whole franchise and Bioware afterwards.

You'd think I'd have learned, but then they went and did the same thing to DAO and DA2...  Loved, absolutely loved DAO, but hated the drivel they released as DA2, so much I'll not be picking up DA3, and am seriously doubting the capabilities of Bioware in general.
