Anyone besides me playing this one? It's not quite a citybuilder game, but you do build a city, and there is a plot to the game. I think I like it!

I used to play the sims back when it was the original game. This is nothing like that. More like an rpg only a bit better than some.

EA just had either a 25% or a 50% off sale on Sims Medieval

I opted to bypass it at this time as I've been watching a fellow play it on justin tv and while I enjoy the sims 3 in small doses, this just looked graphically wrong to me.

I got it on the 50% sale. The graphics seem ok to me. Of course I just moved, and got a new comp again so my usual games are all hidden in boxes and I'm just happy with whatever I have....

All the reviews said this one was VERY linear...any truth to that MH or are you able to just kind of do your thing?

you do have to follow a certain amount of quests, but you usually have several to choose from. You can build up your country in any order you choose, but there's only about 12 or 13 buildings and only maybe 8 or 9 have heroes attached. You have to keep up a certain amount of health, security, culture and knowledge running through the country or bad things happen (bandits, disease, etc). It's really not much different than other city building games that way, you just work with one hero at a time and try to keep things running even. If your hero gets killed, which doesn't happen often, and he or she had children, one of them can grow up and fill in the empty spot, or you can make a new hero if not. Obviously security will drop if your knight dies... disease will go up if your doctor dies, etc....

Maybe it is a little more narrow a path than some, but I like the challenge. If your hero is not working on full focus, it's harder to get anything done, and you have to compensate for their bad traits or lose focus. Also there's a few responsibilities you have to fulfill or get lower focus for shirking as well. It's a game of balances.

Yes I am playing it and enjoying it a lot Agreed Happy but I always much prefer playing the missions in any game rather than playing sandbox.... Wink Wink

But I would not say it is a building game at all - there are only ten 'working' buildings that can be built/decorated and each of these buildings has to be 'paid' for with points that are earned after completing a quest. Also there is no way at present to expand the buildings so the amount of furniture/decor that can be added is extremely limited because of lack of building space. Plus if a Sim has a child, fitting their beds into their home is quite difficult but as we cannot control the children [and therefore their mood does not affect the game] then it only really matters aesthetically that the children do not have beds etc [because it does look and seem really weird to have sim children without a bed I tend to try to avoid my sims having children unless a quest specifically requires it....]

There is a sandbox/freetime section which has just been added in the latest patch but I have not tried it yet....

I have been playing it since it came out and I still have not finished it yet.... this may even turn out to be the longest and best value game I have ever played - especially as nowadays I seem to be able to finish a game within a week of buying it [sometimes just three days  Looking around cautiously ].
