All Gothic titles are 75% off on steam this week!

I picked up Gothic 3, and its standalone expansion pack for about $5.  With the community patch (1.74), and a custom ini this game looks great for being a few years old and so far is absolutely outstanding!

So obviously this deal is over, but this game has consumed me.  Gothic 3 is such a huge complex open ended world with so much to do!  I think I am now 40+ hours in and still have no end in sight.  With the user created patch and custom ini, the game is beautiful!  I sometimes enjoy just running around the environment or taking a stroll through the woods, there is so much to see and find!

If you have never played it (or heard of it really -- which is the boat I was in), I highly recommend it if you like open world rpg, where you arn't forced to follow the beaten path.  I am already thinking about how I could go about things differently if I played it again, there are just so many choices with who you side and the like.  I give a lot of praize to PB for this gem, considering their size.

After I beat this, I know for a fact I am going to board the Risen train to continue enjoying this universe.
(I almost wrote the game off too, I only picked it up for about $2.50, and was turned off by the combat at first, but now that I understand it, I enjoy the game even more - it is not simple... when going after an orc camp for example, you are really fighting off an enitre camp... its not hack and slash, you need to plan and be prepared for a fight).

So although no longer on sale, I still highly recommend this if you have never given it a look, or maybe have it but never played it.

Interesting. I do have it actually, bought it probably over a year ago, but I never got into it for a couple of reasons. One was the performance was so bad on my computer and I seem to recall it would crash a lot. The other was the combat which I just couldn't figure out. Its like either I swing and they back up repeatedly or I try to dodge their attacks which results in me backing up repeatedly, either way no one gets hit. If I try to let them get close enough and then try to hit then they always hit me first and in many cases hit me repeatedly while I am unable to do anything because they keep interupting me. I'm sure there must be a trick to it or something but I couldn't figure out how to do it.

I found fighting was a lot easier if my character was on a slope  with the enemy a bit further up the slope.  The sword rarely missed then.  Big Smiley Grin Laughing.  But on flat ground was a bit trickier and as Crowbird says you get  used to the system.  I also tried to jump onto stuff, like a roof or rocks etc and was usually pretty safe..is good then with the bow.
Risen is a great game, I had a lot of fun with that.  Plus Divinity 2 is another I would recommend  Thumbs Up

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.
