I'm looking for the title of an old space city builder.  I'll describe what I remember about the game.  It's a 90's game.  I used to have it on my mac computer.  It starts out on earth you send out probes but you can only send then to 2 or 3 planetary systems and then you choose a planet to colonize.  After you land you name your in game computer.  You start building underground I think.  You build and dig with robot building machines.  You can also build on the suface.  Your city can have up to 4 or 5 levels underground.  You also research to get new improvements.  If anyone knows the title of this I would be grateful.  :)

Sounds a little like Master of Orion

I only played MOO3 and grew to hate it but I think the early versions were well thought of

I know what game hes talking about. An old time favorite of mine, Outpost. I enjoyed Outpost 2 more but from his description he is talking about the first Outpost game. Both published by Sierra. An underrated series.

Looks like the free version might be for Outpost 2 multi-player only though. And unless they made some changes to it the game doesn't allow for skirmishes against AI. One of the games biggest faults. The game itself came with only one map that had an AI opponent but they were relatively static in that they always grew at the same rate and in the exact same manner every time you played it. You could pretty much time when they would do each action.

muah!  the positive is for finding the game. Smiley Blink

Virmin if you are referring to the size of the download on Outpost 2, it is just that all music and movies have been stripped off the download.

I played though several tutorials, and will try a campaign when i get a bit more time.
