Hello, my name is Helikaon :)

I just wanted to stop by and say hello to everyone who browses these forums.
My city building history probably pales in comparison to some of the veterans here but I have a few favourites.
The first city builder I played was Zeus and I completely love that game - I am still playing it 10 years later.   It sparked my interest in a number of things from architecture to history and gaming in general.
I have mostly only had an old dusty family computer that struggled to run big cities in Zeus, so as a result I haven't played many newer titles.
Games I have played are:

Caesar III
Pharaoh + Cleopatra
Zeus
Emperor: RotMK
Patrician III (very briefly, I was very young when my father bought it for me and I didn't understand it. )
(and more recently due to having access to a nice computer)
Anno 1404 + Venice
Caesar IV

I must say the Impressions series are very dear to me as I played them almost exclusively growing up.   More recently I tried Anno 1404 after browsing here and I am in love with the game (the water is very beautiful too).   Also Caesar IV seems very different to Caesar III, a little small perhaps but I think I just prefer Isometric views because its all I know =)

I also have interest in a few other strategy titles but this may not be the place

So I wonder if the veterans could offer something new to try similar to what I know?  I'd be grateful and if you want to know about games in my list I'll be happy to help

And again, Hello!

Hi Helikaon and welcome to the forum.

I was always a big fan of the Caesar games also but I only played Caesar I and II. Seems to me Caesar III and IV introduced things about god worship and such that didn't much interest me so I never played those. I wish I could still play Caesar II but it won't run on Vista it would seem. I am also a big fan of the Anno series. I own all of them but the 1503 one. If I ever saw that one on sale I would get it too though.

I find it interesting that you haven't listed any of the Simcity series. Did you really not play any of those games? I remember when the first Simcity came out, it seemed everyone and their grandma knew about it. It was even on my teacher's computer at school and we all played it during lunch break. I think I was the only one in the class that owned the game though so I was showing others how to play it. Funny how something that was so great at the time would be so utterly boring to play now because of how simple it was lol.

Welcome!

Grand Ages: Rome might be one to try.  There should be a demo for it out there.

Hi Helikaon,

I also just recently joined the forum and I have also played all the Caesars which I agree some are better than others.  :) I would suggest all the games suggested so far and of the SimCitys, number 4 with rush hour expansion is the best of them in my opinion.  I would see if you can get all the annos because they are great games and the water gets even better as you go on too.   Big Smiley Grin Laughing So welcome to the family.   Hello and Welcome

Only the starting campaign maps in Caesar IV are small, they get much bigger later on in the campaign. Try looking at some standalone (non campaign) scenarios, example Djedu.

I am new around these parts myself!
Been a god gamer for as long as I have played games.   I am played every type of "strategy/simulation" game that has come to market.   My hands down favs: Sim series before EA (loved SimTower!), All the FireAxis Games and all the Impression series stuff.   All the Sierra stuff before they folded (Lords of the Realm, Lords of Magic, etc) Also a big BlueByte fan (Settlers rule!).   I still dabble with The Sims, but stopped at 2, and still play all of the Sim City stuff.   I recently picked up COTN and CivCity Rome after shelving them for quite some time.   For Children of the Nile, I now realize why I shelved it.   The mouse issue drives me nuts!  CivCity got put away after I beat it.   Only second game ever that I had actually finished (Lords of the Realm ll being the first).

Good to know all of you

Hi LadyTerra and welcome to the site. I like that you mention Lords of the Realm, that was one of my all time favorites. I remember when the first one came out, think it was back in 94, I had a lot of fun with it. Its a shame that the 3rd one in the series was so bad after the first two were so great. If only Impressions were still around.
