@ Crowebird, yep! $259 seems to be the lowest price. Here is the EVGA

I do too. I own one now and it has been more stable than any other previous card. I have their 760 XT. But.....

CANCEL THAT!

The reason I wanted an X4 fprocessor is because I assumed the video editing/making software (or the latest version) is multi-threaded. It is, but only during encoding, not during editing. It is Sony Vegas Platinum. Only the Pro edition has the multi-threading, and its' price is $299 for an upgrade. Not worth it.

There is one video editing package that is seamless with Adobe products. It is called Premier Pro, and it is fully multi-threaded. It's price? $799. I can't do dat!

So, after all this struggle to learn what's what in hardware these days, it is pointless to pursue this any longer. This is both discouraging and comforting. I don't have to shell out the cash. I can use it on more important things, and one thing I really, really need is a vacation. I will pursue this. It will be good for both me and Buster, and it very well may be the last I ever get. So.... I'm comfortable in my decision. And, it was fun learning. It's always fun to learn.  wink

I'd like to show you what I've been doing. If you have the time or can make some in the future, go here

http://www.youtube.com/user/Lengo67?feature=mhsn#p/u

Then, on the right side column, click the 'see all' link, then click the sort by date button above the list.

The most recent one is the Beatles - Getting Better All the Time. I recommend this one. I went all out on effects and timing here.

I also recommend these three:

Sophie Milman - Aqua de Beber (simple but tastelful)
Louis Jordan w Chick Webb - Gee But You're Swell
Jessica Molaskey - Breezin' Along With the Breeze

And I think you'll get a kick out of Disney's On a Golden Afternoon from Alice in Wonderland. But the one that's most animated and truly my best, is The Beatles - Getting Better All The Time. I'm quite proud of that one. Give it a look, eh? Rate it if you have an account at Youtube, please, and be generous! I wanna get famous!

Now, I'm off! I'm going to buy some Hollywood sunglasses. Ta taa!   Big Smiley Grin Laughing

So... Although you said you are not doing this anymore, I think I might make a graphics card move.  As much as I love my 275, I am looking to buy two gtx 460 and sli.

With that said Im going to search competitive market for a good price to sell mine, but this means I have a 275 up for sale...

Great condition, I always run non-oc, and regularly clean my pc from dust, make sure it is in good working order, etc.
Any one interested?

(maybe this should be its own thread but fits)

Hmmm, I wonder how two 275's would do in SLI?

Well 2 gtx 275 will probably be better than a gtx 295.  It is the route I originally wanted to go, however I can get a 460 cheaper than another 275 - and I can't find my matching card - and 2 460s in sli are suppose to blow away the 480.  (The big reason I am doing this is I want three monitor support, over the performance increase - I guess moving from the 275 to the 460 is more or less a push in performance upgrade - and with selling my 275 I can cover some of the cost of the change, making it more of a single card purchase over a double... (but I do also need to buy the extra monitor).

[Extra note on sli, make sure the memory matches, otherwise both cards use the lower of the two as max memory.  Mine is 896, if yours is higher, both cards will run at 896...: (I found this from a 2007 article, not sure how much times have changed)

Can I mix and match graphics cards with different sizes of memory?
While it is not recommended, NVIDIA does offer this flexibility using Coolbits. When purchasing a second graphics card, you should try to match the memory size so that you are ensured full value and performance from your purchase. For example, if your first card is a GeForce 6600 GT with 128MB of memory, you should purchase a second GeForce 6600 GT with 128MB of memory. However, using Coolbits (value set to 18), you can force both of the cards to use the lower of the two memory sizes and operate together in SLI mode. When dissimilar memory sizes are enabled to work together using Coolbits, the effective memory size for each card becomes the smaller of the two memory sizes. Instructions to enable this feature can be found here.

SLI is obsolete. With today's graphics cards, you get little performance increase by SLIing them. Search for 'SLI performance' on Google, and you'll find that today's cards are so fast, SLI does little to increase performance. You get perhaps a 2% increase in performance. Check it out for yourself.

The recent research I've done shows that for Nvidia cards, your best bet is a card with Cuda technology. Two that I know of are the 460 and the 285. I'm not sure what Cuda does, but some video editing software takes advantage of this, and system requirements list a Cuda enabled card. Games also benefit from Cuda technology. It appears that coding for Cuda is not required and Cuda will be taken advantage of automatically.

A better option (according to the hype I've read and one report) is to get a Nvidia card that's PhysX ready and put the PhysX card in the second PCIEx16 slot. I'm not sure on this, but I think you need a 500 series card to run PhysX alongside your graphics card. I'm not interested so I have done little research, but do know that these 500 series cards are MUCHO expensive and so are the PhysX cards. My graphics are good enough, so I haven't spent much time investigating this.

I know nothing about Radeon cards and don't care to know. I could care less if they outperform Nvidia cards because I'm happy with Nvidia, have always owned an Nvidia, and have never had a problem with them. Even if a Radeon card gives 10 times the performance of an Nvidia card, I wouldn't care. The performance I get out of my 7600GT is good enough for me, although I can see that I better get a DirectX 10 or 11 card soon or I'll be left out in the cold.  Then again, I don't see many new games for a PC. Most games are being made for Xbox, Nintendo, or other dedicated gaming machines. sigh.

Most daunting are the 'new and improved' monitors. For web based graphics, your best bet is an IPS panel or S-IPS panel monitor. For print media graphics, your best bet is a VA panel monitor. For games, your best bet is a TN panel monitor. @#$%! What am I suppose to buy for all around computing? The 'old' CRT monitors do better at all-purpose than the flat screens. 'New and improved' my foot! All of these monitors have native resolutions that are super high, and all my photos are 1024x768 so they're gonna be small. And these new LED monitors are mostly 16:9 aspect ratio or 16x10, so to get a monitor that has an image that is as tall as a 17" CRT, you need a 24 inch diagonal monitor. Crap! These are mucho expensive unless you get a TN panel which is more suitable for games (pixel refresh rates go as low as 2 ms for TN, are typically 5-6 ms for IPS and VA. I don't know what to buy, and I can't afford one anyway! What are you guys running and what do you recommend for all-purpose use? I want GOOD BLACK (a typical problem with TN panels) and natural looking saturation levels. I have a HP 24" IPS panel monitor in my Newegg wish list, but it's a whopping $450! Sheesh! An Athlon II Propus X4 3GHz processor and main board only costs $185!

It just seems to me that what reaches your eye is more important than frame rates. Most video cards today deliver better than 30 FPS for most games, and even up to 100 fps. Who needs that? The eye can't discern anything better than 30 FPS. I want the best looking monitor, not the fastest graphics acceleration.  The monitor is more important to your system, just like good speakers are more important to a stereo system.I want the best IMAGE, not the fastest speed.

Yea there are a few issues with sli but the performance of two 460s will beat one 485 and will be cheaper.
But again I was not too worried about performance, I want the option of three screens (ie for flight simulator, I don't want to pay for that matrox thing)

Concerning physx, it really is only advantageous for games that use physx technology.

All in all two 460s will do what I want with good performance.

Well, people want different things from their system. I hope that works out for you.

Re: Your 275.  Details please. What make / GT GTX? How old? How many hours on it and what kind of cooling you have in your case? Price? I might be interested.

p.s. I shoulda said CANCEL THE WIN 7 system. I'm gonna upgrade my XP system with a mainboard that has AMD AM3 socket,790G Northbridge, and put the Athlon II Propus X4 in it. When the time comes, I'll be ready for Win 7. The northbridge will be a good match for an Nvidia 275.
